The more video I watch of Austin Meadows the more I am impressed. He's got such pure sweet left handed swing. He's got a great frame that will allow a ton of muscle to be added and he already has decent power. I think a lot has been made of the difference between Frazier and Meadows power, but he's no slouch. Meadow is also much more balanced within his swing.

Interesting listen. One thing that jumped out to me was that Callis said definitively that Shipley would be gone before KC picks at 8.

I think if Stewart goes then Sox will go for Meadows. From what I read he has a smooth swing with balance (not many moving parts) which enables him to be consistent. Nothing to worry about his power as he fills in to his frame he will get his power. IIRC he has a better hit tool than Frazier and if that is true he will do well and will have a higher floor than Frazier and potentially equal Ceiling. Frazier on the other hand has gamer written over him which could mean he may not be as risky as it sounds, but I dont think he will be there for Sox and possibly Meadows camp wins out.

I am sorry but I am not feeling Lil'Yaz. You just know the Red Sox are going to take Mike Yastrzemski somewhere on later on day 2.

Here is what Baseball America said about Yastrzemski when he was coming out of St. John's Prep: I do not think it was particularly shocking to the Red Sox that as a 36th round pick that Yastrzemski did not sign. At this point in his career, he actually has the potential to be MLB player and play all three outfield spots as a backup.

BTW: I also Love Keith Law telling high school pitchers to skip college. He actually makes a very good point, because if you have a chance to go in the top three or four rounds (and won't go below round 6), you should probably strongly consider turning pro and avoid the risk of being abused in college.

There's a church right down the street from my house in Peabody. I swear I will light a candle everyday day and night to get Appel and/or Gray. I wouldn't mind Dillon Overton in the 3rd. I hope we can snatch a couple of 1B/3B prospects.

I thought I heard Callis linking Stanek and the Red Sox which is very surprising given Stanek's poor command. I don't see how any team could draft Stanek in the top 10 to 12 picks of the 1st round with some reports rating his command at 40.

I wonder if the Sox would consider nabbing him at #7 if Stewart isn't there? He has some serious helium and I've seen him in the 10 range with some mocks. Not sure about his secondary pitches or control or makeup, though. he-li-um (n): see: Vitek, Kolbrin.

I was all in for Stanek at the beginning of the season, but last year he looked like a solid #2 starter to me. Now I wonder if he'll every be a #3.

I think there should be some sort of unwritten rule where Kolbrin Vitek's name is not allowed to be mentioned in draft threads.

So yeah that turned out great.

The idea is that it gives him more time to see and react to the spin/break before he has to start his swing. Great bat speed is not a guarantee for success. I can rattle off several high school players who had great bat speed, had questions about the ability to hit breaking pitches, (Lastings Milledge, Cameron Maybin come to mind right away as guys who fit this profile) and ended up being busts. But then again, Mike Trout struggled with breaking stuff at times in high school, so ya, players can adapt. No definitely, I never implied that it was any sort of guarantee of anything, but it certainly helps his cause.

Kiley McDaniel @kileymcd Closer than two weeks ago, still think they prefer Frazier RT @pittcabe Meadows? Sounds like Boston likes him even more than Frazier.

Jim Callis @jimcallisba Beginning to sense #Astros leaning to Appel if $ fit like they want. #mlbdraft Hope they do take Appel. Rumors are that the Cubs would then pass on Gray and select one of Bryant or Moran. If this were the case and Gray slipped to MIN at #4, it means Stewart might drop to us at #7. Unfortunately, I can't see COL passing on Gray.
