Is it strange that I'm somewhat relieved JBJ is struggling in AAA? It just confirms that his struggles this year aren't a matter of him simply not being able to hit major league pitching, but rather some other issue (mechanical?) that can hopefully be tweaked. I was thinking exactly the same thing, and I was also wondering if it was too strange to post. We know he can AAA pitching, so the fact that he is now struggling so much against the type of pitching he used to be able to hit suggests there might be something fixable. And no, I have no idea if that actually makes any sense.

Or his confidence is irretrievably shot, he's absolutely convinced he sucks, and he'll never be able to hit professional pitching again at any level. Which I don't believe, by the way.

Lowell Spinners ? lowellspinners 5m Mauricio Dubon takes third on a wild pitch and comes around to score on an error by the catcher to tie the game at four here in the ninth. Lowell Spinners ? lowellspinners 6m Dubon reached after a heads up bunt when he noticed Tigers 3B Steven Fuentes take three steps back after the first pitch. Sounds like his head is in the game... Lowell Spinners ? lowellspinners 5m #WalkOffWin for the #Spinners AGAIN. Mike Meyers delivers the game winning single and it's a 5-4 Lowell win.

Yeah but that was caused by rising lard. Salem lost 9-5. Asuaje 2/4 with 2 2B. Now batting .313. Morgot 1/4. Tim Britton ?@timbritton 4m What Garin Cecchini learned from his slump, and why it’s probably best it happened now: bit.ly/1kWvEMv

Matt Barnes drops the ERA under 4.00, now at 3.89. Return the praise and hype. Next year will be the year everyone will be calling for Owens and Barnes to join the MLB rotation if not traded before. Very encouraging end of season for Barnes following course with his 2013 end of season. Looking forward to him actually starting strong next season showing consistent production throughout.

Ryan Roberts 2 for 4 (HR & 2B), needs to be in majors on 9/1. Trade him to a contender.
Coyle off the DL. 0 for 4.

Travis, Bethea & Guzman all with HRs in the Drive loss.
Catchers on fire:
Only 32 ABs but since his promotion, catcher Carson Blair .313/.395/.688/1.082 with 2 HRs. Only 36 ABs but since his promotion, catcher Danny Bethea .361/.410/.528/.938 with 2 HRs. Only 28 ABs but since his promotion, catcher Jake Romanski .250/.250/.500/.750 with 2 HRs.

Very encouraging end of season for Barnes following course with his 2013 end of season. Looking forward to him actually starting strong next season showing consistent production throughout. Barnes' outing was even more impressive than his 6.1 2 0 0 3 7 line. Both hits were on ground balls (out of four total ground balls he induced) and the second was to the last man he faced. All three walks were among his last six batters faced. And he got six popups. I think it's safe to say that before he started running out of gas, he'd gone 5.2 1 0 0 0 6 with 5 popups. I'm going to break down his season (first 15 starts versus last 4, with 2 transitional games where he seemed to be improving) in his thread.

Barnes also got off to a great start after being on the DL to open his season. First several games were good. It is the part that's in between that sucked.
Five popups are HRs in the majors, I thought you knew that.

Josh Norris ?@jnorris427 1m Pat Light touched 98 in the first. He also hung a slider that Courtney Hawkins hit to Mars. Josh Norris ?@jnorris427 7m Manuel Margot swung so hard his helmet flew off. Never seen that. Too bad Johnny Gomes is not around to show him how to really secure his helmet. Sean Coyle off the DL. Played 2B for Sea Dogs.

His swing is a mess right now. If he isn't sitting on fastballs, he can't catch up to 90mph because it is so long with so much movement before the pitch. Between he and Xander, the hitting coach doesn't seem to be doing his job.

FYI, Chaz Fiorino, scouting he game had these tweetments after Barnes was done - Chaz Fiorino Chaz Fiorino Barnes did not pitch as well as box score indicated. Pitched up with the FB. Inconsistent secondaries. Walked 3. Awful Lehigh line-up.Chaz Fiorino Chaz Fiorino FWIW Lehigh Valley lineup is last in every offensive category in AAA International League. Team slash line .248/.311/.372. Last in runs.Matt Huegel was there too and his tweets sounded better. I'd like to see a nice write-up from him.
