Brendan McGair ?@bwmcgair03 17 min. @pawsox pitching coach Rich Sauveur will leave at the end of the season. Made up his mind last month. Bring back Mike Cather. Pretty amazing if you think about it, what was at one point the entire rotation and spot starter at Pawtucket is now in Boston. Their primary lefty relievers are there as well. Barnes, Ranaudo, Webster, Workman, RDLR, Wright, Layne, Britton.

PawSox up 1-0 after 1. I missed the top half but Escobar 1-2-3. Second half Durham's starter (a lefty) had a bit of BABIP misfortune. Struck out Castillo on a perfect location fastball (looking) then yielded singles to De Jeses and Shaw. Shaw with a nice up the middle RBI ground single.
Impressive second for Escobar. He's throwing faster and locating better than an earlier game I saw. Sitting 93ish now and mixing in a nice slider.

All of this movement puts the importance of minor league playoffs into perspective. As in ...... UN As in less important than... ? As in -- simply unimportant. Might as well evaluate performances of players as if it were a typical minor league game in June. The series will be as interesting as any debut performance for the guys just moved up from Portland. But as for the fact that after this series "A CHAMPION" will be crowned -- basically meaningless. Especially if Durham wins: What the heck does it prove if they are able to defeat a team whose backbone has recently been removed?

Minor league wins in general are not important, from that perspective I agree, it's player development not team record. Relatively speaking though, it's still the same as any playoffs and also has the benefit of giving a group of players experience in games with more meaning to them. Winning is the most important thing for every player on both teams.

Marrero with a nice line drive single to RF to drive in Swihart. Castillo with another K, this one swinging. Bulls starter hitting 96 and sometimes spotting well. Castillo looks a little late. There's not much noise in his mechanics so that shouldn't be an issue going forward. 2-0 now.
I didn't see it but Durham tied it up on three singles. 2-2 now. Interesting fact, Romero the Durham starter, has pitched in three consecutive futures games, he's 23 (Escobar is 22).
WOW AB going on for Cecchini, 11 pitches so far. Runners on 1st and 3rd, Hassan had a nice inside out opposite field single. Cecchini's AB ended with a deep opposite field sac fly.
Romero with 77 pitches thru 3, Escobar 43. Romero is having a lot of issues with his slider.
You know how sometimes a friend buys a dog and after a while begins to look like the dog ? Lavarnway used to look like a catcher, now he looks like a first baseman.
Marrero and Swihart both looking good and making quality ABs. Castillo with a first pitch single to 3B. Wasn't late on that one but was thrown out trying to steal. Romero is out of the game, Mathis in, a righty, credit him for the caught stealing, he's fast to the plate.
After 5, still 3-2. Escobar throwing strikes but I haven't seen many change ups. 67p/48s 6/2 GO/FO and 0BB 4Ks.
Escobar still hitting 95 in the sixth, still locating well.
Cecchini with another well hit deep fly, this one put the center fielder against the wall in right center. 3-2 after 6.
Michael Corey (?) with a nice acoustic guitar presentation of God Bless America. LOL, PawSox will probably be fined for airing that.
Escobar thru 7. Debatable error/hit. Tough hop ground ball to Cecchini. Call could go either way. EDIT: Ruled an error. Escobar's pitch count up to 101.
Castillo's 4th AB, appeared to be trying to dunk a line drive to RF, hit it a little harder than he wanted. He strikes me as a relatively aggressive batter with an all fields approach and excellent bat control. 3-2 after 7.
Bulls with a little noise, Hinojosa and Verdugo each allowed a walk, PawSox closer Hembree in with runners on first, second, 2 outs in the eighth.
Hembree ended it with a swinging K. Nice mix of FBs and sliders. 8p/5s
Done deal 3-2 win but not without some adventure. Bulls had the bases loaded with one out. Would likely have scored if the third base coach didn't hold up a runner on a single to right.

PawSox win 3-2 after a heart-attack save from Hembree.

I don't think I can handle another heart attack-inducing RP with "embree" in the last name. We have enough pitchers, trade him, please.

Looks like Johnson for game two....at least according to milb...
"ed. note: Barnes has since been called up to Boston, and No. 10 prospect Brian Johnson has taken his place in the Pawtucket rotation for Game 2."

That's a little misleading. He's not getting called up.

They typically do this when the player is in town for his physical or to announce his signing. They do it every year. Just the timing is off.
