I have 3rd row seats for game 3, right next to Sox dugout by on-deck circle. $10, I love minor league baseball.

the move not taken: They didn't send Couch back to Seadogs to start the Sunday game.

Barnes called up to boston today. Some here said it won't happen and they didn't want it. No optioned burned, so no cost except 20 days or fewer of service time.

I don't like it cause I think he should finish the playoff off with Pawtucket. That experience is valuable IMO.

I know one person that agrees with the call up...Matt Barnes.
Belicheck talks about first year players " not able to find the field" for practice.
While I was hoping to see him live on Wed in the playoffs, I agree in the merit of the show.
I just hope there is no significance to the relief role.

It's basically the difference between one minor league playoff start versus whatever adjustment benefit he gets from being in the clubhouse/around the major leaguers and the handful of relief innings he might get. I could go either way, and I have no real problem with promoting him early.

It's obviously a secret strategy plan to test the resolution of the glut of upper level pitching prospects. The never before seen seven man rotation.
By 2016 we could be in a position to field a 10 man rotation.

Personally, I don't get why this couldn't have waited. The Governors' Cup series will end by Saturday. At most he makes one relief appearance before then, right?
I thought that they were all about debuting guys on the road too?

No off-days in this series. With Escobar on the hill tomorrow & Barnes called up, that leaves Couch, Owens and Hernandez/Verdugo/Committee as current PawSox starters. I was certain they'd bring up Brian Johnson, until I saw Chris's tweet citing his 60-IP workload increase this year. It's a reasonable concern. So will they bring anyone else up from Portland? Eduardo Rodriguez needs to be added to the 40-man this fall, making him eligible (though unlikely) for 2015 call-ups. Do the Sox want to see how he handles jumping a level at playoff time? He's at 127 IP this year vs 145 last season. How about Justin Haley? 125 IP in 2013, 136 IP this year, 23 yrs old. EDIT - Never mind on Rodriguez. Missed Huegel's earlier tweet. Apparently he's already been called up to Pawtucket. But I'm still hoping they'll give the ball to someone other than the committee guys if a deciding Game 5 is played.

I'm sorta with Chris, feel like the Barnes promotion could've waited, but whatever ... it's not about winning in the minor leagues, I guess. And personally, I'd love to see what Rodriguez could do in a AAA playoff start. I'm all-in on him by now.
The problems at the top of the system in Boston have definitely drained the talent pool in the minors a bit ... and there's that lull in the talent pool between the guys currently in AAA and the lower minors, with just a handful of interesting guys (like Margot, B Johnson, maybe Coyle or Asuaje in a second tier) ending the year in AA and A+.

This is digging too deep for a IL series, probably, but if anyone has time (I'll try later), do the players on the Bulls have some any noticeable splits against lefties?

I was surprised to see Barnes called up after he was already slotted to start game two. I don't think it is a bad move, but I think the preference should be for him starting, especially because he has been consolidating on his gains in the second half of the season. Anyways, I still think he is deserving of it, and hoping he makes the most of his time. Congrats Matt, although you're playing for the team you spent your whole childhood rooting against.
So what is the precedent here with players making AAA starts at the end of the season? I wouldn't typically think someone would be moved up to AAA to start the next season back in AA. I would think it would be hard to move any of those 4 left handers back down, add in competition from Webster, Workman, Barnes, Ranaduo. Wright and Couch also have been earning their spots, even if they are not as heralded as the other prospects.
The generic response will be that some of these guys probably will be traded in the offseason, but we still have quite the log jam. Poor us.

Wat are the strengths of the Durham lineup? LHH or RHH? Or are they pretty balanced? Wow, this lineup "features" one hugely disappointing #9 prospect (Beckham), a #25 prospect (Mahtook), one and a half depth chart guys (Belnome and Maile), one recent prospect flameout they picked up (Franklin), and a bunch of retreads. Their #2 prospect, Hak-Ju Leee, is on the bench after hitting .203 / .287 / .286, but got one start in the Columbus series. Splits, OPS vs RHP / LHP, 2014 across all levels unless noted. I've included ages for schadenfreude. LHB: 1B Vince Belnome (26), 797 / 550 (AAA) 3B Cole Figueroa (27), 761 / 754 (738 / 742 including MLB) LF Jeremy Moore (27), 703 / 861 (half in AA) DH Mike Fontenot (34), 751 / 632 MLB career (747 / 621 this year in AAA) [SS Hak-Jue Le (23), 558 / 581] Switch: 2B Nick Franklin (23), 786 / 549 (includes MLB; 727 / 599 last year in MLB ) Bench Wilson Betemit (32), career 819 / 636 in MLB RHB: SS Tim Beckham (24), killed LHP in a tiny SS, but reverse split in 2012, 2013 CF Justin Christian (34), 793 / 732 RF Mikie Mahtook (24), 743 / 1044 C Ali Solis (26), 451 / 667 C Luke Maile (23, played in AA), 710 / 799 So, three guys that really struggle vs. LHP, and two guys who like them (not buying Moore's reverse split as likely to be real).
