For anyone going to Hadlock field Super Bowl hero Malcolm Butler will be there.

Bradley, Swihart, Brentz and Shaw have yet to make an out. Five hits and a walk among them, and they're not even through the second inning.
EDIT: Shaw now 0/1 with that BB. Johnson throwing 2 hitless with a walk and 2K's.

Johnson throwing 2 hitless with a walk and 2K's. Johnson has issued 5 walks as we sit in the 4th and given up some hard hit balls (one of which would have been a HR had a strong wind not knocked it down). He is at 77 pitches thru 4. But...only one hit and 4 strikeouts on a less than optimum weather day.

Our savior Brian Johnson with 5 walks. Weird for him. Only allowed one hit though, so the damage has been limited.
Glad Swihart is hitting, but where's the power? If he isn't going to walk much, he's gonna need to bring more pop than he has.

I wouldn't characterize Johnson as savior...just maybe better than some of what we are currently seeing take the mound.

It's a good reminder that a) he's a guy who won't be effective when he doesn't have his best stuff, and b) I (others too) may be way overzealous in our reactions to Miley's poor start.

a) he's a guy who won't be effective when he doesn't have his best stuff, That basically describes every pitcher who isn't Pedro Martinez. However, I actually think it applies to Johnson less than other pitchers, since his success comes from location and his ability to mix pitches than pure stuff. If he has a night where he's throwing 91 instead of 93 or he's not feeling his curve then he can still be okay.

Well then you can spin it like this, and I think it applies more to tonight's game anyway because he walked 5 people: "When he doesn't have his best command/control, he won't be as effective."

Saw Matt RT this on the sidebar, but didn't see it posted anywhere. Looks like we can delay putting him on the 40-man for another season.
Kevin Thomas @clearthebases OF Henry Ramos on crutches in @portlandseadogs clubhouse. Just had knee surgery. Another season halted by a leg injury

Except he was? I mean, I know the Chiefs have a pretty weak lineup even for International League standards, but this seems like we're searching for flaws. If you're waiting for a pitcher who is never going to have bad games, or is going to remain excellent on days where he doesn't have his stuff going for him, you're going to be waiting for a long time.

Yeah I thought the same thing after I wrote that. I don't really think tonight is a good example of anything honestly because it was an outlier for him. Can't remember if he's ever walked 5 in a game. Don't think he has. But yeah, probably wouldn't have flown this well in the majors.

Exactly. It's not a Brian Johnson-specific problem. Pitchers sometimes have days where their control isn't quite there, and usually on those days those pitchers are not very good.
FYI, he does have a few other five-walk games: two when he was in Greenville and one with Portland.
