OK, so this is more of a hypothetical/what if post so if you are looking for a serious idea, you probably shouldn't waste your time (sub-description on forum is go nuts)
So some times when I am bored I start thinking what if the Red Sox wanted to forget completely about in 2013, and just build the best possible team they can from 2014-2018, would they have enough pieces to sell to make a young world series favorite team? The idea is unrealistic because the front office would never disappoint their fans by giving up before a season starts and trading some franchise players, but it is kind of fun to ponder.
3 Team trade
Texas gets:
Ortiz
Justin Upton
Cash (from Red Sox for Ortiz's contract)
Arizona gets:
Pedroia
Lester
Iglesias/Marrero
If needed Cash from Red Sox
Red Sox get:
Trevor Bauer
Tyler Snaggs
Andrus (or Mike Olt or Jurickson Profar)
This is a very complex trade and the values are probably off. I.E. Texas probably owes Arizona some prospects. Adjust as you see fit
Trade Clay Buchholz for Will Myers or Oscar Taveras. Once again with Cash considerations.
This is the long shot but every other piece and cash for Ike Davis and Zach Wheeler. We can do an Ellsbury for prospects and send those, Owens, Swihart, Cecchini, Kalish, and some of our pitching prospects from the 2012 draft. I'm really reaching here so I am going to write Wheeler out and say we make a trade with some pieces for Davis.
2014 FA signings
Cano 8 years 25 per (figure thats what it will take for 4-5 years of good production)
If Lincecum returns to form 25 per for 4-6 years
If not we can sign a Garza, Josh Johnson, or RA Dickey Also probably have enough payroll at this time to sign 2 of these players if needed
Starting Rotation
Bauer
Snaggs
FA Signing
Barns, Webster, and DLR for the 4-5 spots
2014 Lineup
CF JBJ
SS Andrus
2B Cano
LF Myers or Taveras
RF Bogaerts
3B Middlebrooks
1B Ike Davis
C Lavarnway
DH Brentz or FA signing
I apologize if any of you read this and feel like I wasted your time. I am living in fantasy land would anyone like to join me?
