Too bad, I really liked what McDaniel was doing. But given how many of the guys doing his job have gotten snapped up by MLB teams in the last few years, it's hardly surprising. Good for him.

Strange paradox - baseball is most entertaining when people running teams are dumb and people who can't get hired and are writing about those dumb people are smart. That said, one of the best developments in baseball the last few years is how willing teams have been to go outside their usual avenues to find talented people.

That said, one of the best developments in baseball the last few years is how willing teams have been to go outside their usual avenues to find talented people. Retreading of managers and GM's, not only in baseball, but pretty much every sport, is one of the spots where there hasn't been much willingness. Teams/presidents/etc are more willing to fail on a "safe" choice than take a risk. You can sense it starting to change just a bit, but it's still a long ways away IMO. It's kind of like the NFL QB roulette, where a failed NFL QB is better than an unknown one

Sox have nominees in only two "MiLBY" awards this year: GCL Sox for Best Team, and... two nominees in blooper of the year, those being Humberto Quintero throwing the ball into Adam Maile's stomach and Rusney Castillo catching a pickoff throw and throwing it back... while he was a runner. www.milb.com/news/awards/y2015/index.jsp

The announcers note that time had been called, so a harmless thing. www.milb.com/news/awards/y2015/index.jsp
