This is just an idea, no rumors associated with it.
San Diego needs a good defensive CF pretty badly with Kemp and Upton being below average on the corners. I think a Castillo-Myers swap makes sense for both sides. Trading Kemp would be more ideal for San Diego, but I dont think that's possible at this point. This trade would benefit both teams. Boston would probably have to add in a decent spec, but it does make sense. Myers has rebounded, but like Castillo he isn't a sure thing offensively.
You could sub JBJ in for Castillo, but idk what the consensus is on his bat, whereas Castillo has looked fine in CF and certainly has a lot of speed to cover ground at Petco.

What motivation would the Padres have, outside of perhaps a better glove in CF, to make that trade? Myers, currently batting .293 with 5HRs, is three years younger than Castillo who boasts. a .211 Ave and .231 or so OBP. To say nothing of the 11m per year average salary Rusney will earn until 2020 as opposed to Myers who is working for a little over half a mil. Castillo has not even established himself as a major leaguer yet, although he shows the potential.

Well no trade would happen until we're closer to the deadline (typically) and I trust that Castillo will be doing better by then. He's not going to have Myers' upside at the plate, but he has a lot more value is the other facets of the game. And in the NL west especially, base running and defense are definitely very important. Adding something like Marrero+Coyle/Rijo could make it a fair deal IMO

I mean, Myers was hyped as much as Bogaerts before he was promoted. He's had a very good year earning him the ROY, a bad year, and now he is hitting at a very productive level in a pitchers park. Wasn't he considered the best hitter in the minors at one point? He's also much cheaper than Castillo. I may be wrong, but I don't think it's a very close deal at all.

Eventually the Padres might have to move Kemp to 1b I would think, obtain a CF, and move Myers to a corner OF spot.

I guess I'm undervaluing Myers but I see him as a 120 wRC RF with average defense. I think he'll have a better career than Castillo, but I don't think they'll differ much in value over the next few years.
Castillo hasn't found his stride so I understand the slepticism.

So like Hunter Pence, Starlin Marte, and maybe the upside of Matt Holliday?

You still haven't addressed the disparity in the cost and ages of the players in your proposal.

I live in the St. Pete area and believe me...when the Rays made the Shields deal with KC and got Myers as part of the package, the press here hyped living stuff out of the guy. You would've thought he was the new Bonds or Griffey Jr.
