If Houston lands Bregman, Tucker and gets Cameron at 37 it would be a very nice addition for their system. They could go SR signs the rest of the way to pick 10 and still have an outstanding class. No way that's possible

Mock draft success %:
1-2: 100% 3-9: 43% 10-11: 21% (3 of 14 -- Manuel, Callis, and Mayo.) 12-17: 7% (3 of 42. Manuel had 2 and Callis 1.)

No way that's possible The 37 slot is worth $1,668,600 to start. Their total pool value is $17.289 mil. They could give easily go 6 mil for Bregman (slightly under and may be closer to 5.5 mil depending on Swansons figure) , 4.2 mil for Tucker (slot) and 5 mil for Cameron (or even 4.5 mil would likely get it done) for a total of 15.2 mil. That leaves 2 mil plus the .85 mil overage for a total of 2.85 mil to sign all other picks so it can be done.

Bickfords stats in college this season include a staggering 166 K's in 87 innings.

Bickfords stats in college this season include a staggering 166 K's in 87 innings. He has easy velocity. I saw him dominate batters in the Cape League. He had a wiry frame with an easy 97 on the gun.

Bickfords stats in college this season include a staggering 166 K's in 87 innings. He's a wild card, of course, but just the kind of guy you feel a little better about in the Giants system. I'd never draft like that org but they hit more often than not, especially with upside pitchers.

Alex Speier @alexspeier Cherington: When it got to our pick, he was the top player on the board. It was obvious who we were taking. We're really excited to get him.
Love hearing this. Nothing worse than hearing a day or two later the player they wanted got stolen right in front of them and they had to settle... (Ball).

Clay Buchholz is the laziest Asche Russell comp... You're going to comp a guy based on his face?

Pardon my ignorance, but why was Benintendi draft eligible before the end of his junior year?
BTW, I like the pick. He has outstanding numbers in the conference that is head and shoulders above all others in college baseball.

I hope he prove his doubters wrong about his power, like Joc Pederson. Nobody would go higher than 55 on his power, even his raw. Looking at his batted ball distance and ISO as a rookie, it's safe to say he was sold short.

I think he is going to be 21 next month.if true then 21 years old seems advanced for a sophomore. Mormon mission maybe?

Good pick for balance, too. Of the last 11 1st round picks, 7 have been pitchers and two have been shortstops (Marrero and Chavis). The last OF picked was JBJ in 2011 when the Sox had multiple 1st round selections.

Benintendi is not hard to spell, people. Just sound it out for crying out loud. Rhymes with Yastrzemski but easier to spell.

Probably just started late. Some states have Aug/Sept cutoff dates for starting school...maybe he was hyper and needed a little extra maturation time. He's not particularly young for the draft (a little, but not a ton...compare w Aiken who was born in August I think but was *young* for his class and the draft), but is relatively so, and I love the jump in output...great numbers in a tough conference and he demonstrated the desire to succeed combined with the will to make it happen.

Honestly, I was half expecting Harold to make a comment after STL took an OFer right after seeing Holliday get hurt. Thank god he didn't get airtime to try and make a connection between the two.

All 5 tools, to go with an exquisite swing, with good bat speed and tremendous loft. Hitting for power is not all about size, not at all. If Benintendi is half that good the team will be very happy.

Meh. KATOH is useless, so KATOH adjusted to college stats is worse than useless.

Yankees come out of the first round with Kaprelian and Kyle Holder, SS, San Diego.. Not sure I'd be too thrilled about that if I were a Yankees fan.

I don't know if this is the case here, but it's not uncommon for kids to "stay back" a year in order to be bigger for football in some states. It's more common in the south.
