Meaningless and apologize if this means nothing in advance to some of you guys.. Just an observation on stadiums here in Florida:
Everytime I go to a FSL game here at Lakeland, old Joler Marchant stadium, 50+ years old, which is also still the spring training home of the Detroit Tigers. Still wonder why Winter Haven tore down old Chain 'o Lakes Stadium, that was the ST Home of Boston for Quarter of a century, minor league team of the Mets 1st during the 60's for a couple of years (Nolan Ryan played for them, trivia question!) and then for the W H Red Sox until Boston went to Ft Myers, then Cleveland came to town for 2-3 years.
Anyway.. Winter Haven constantly upgraded the stadium. Walls had thick padding, stadium had ACTUAL bullpens and good clubhouses. Only way Joker Marchent is better, 26y later is the seating and scoreboard. Chain link fence outfield? You have to be kidding me? I still shake my head everytime go to an A ball game here (which is quite often) that the Detroit Tigers tolerate this place for a ST home and Boston got out of WH quarter of a century ago with a FAR superior situation.

I got my 1st look at Yoan Moncada on Friday Night in Greenville. I came away very impressed and I wrote about him here, legendsondeck.com/1st-look-yoan-moncada/Here's a sample: I took a trip down to Greenville, SC on Friday to see the Drive take on the Rome Braves, it was the sixth time this season I made the 70 mile drive down from Asheville. The Drive are an exciting team this year, and they’re loaded with talented prospects such as, (2B) Yoan Moncada, (3B, DH) Rafael Devers, (SS) Javier Guerra, (3B, DH) Michael Chavis, and (RHP) Michael Kopech and interesting specs in (2B, SS) Mauricio Dubon, (1B, RF) Nick Longhi, (C) Jordan Procyshen and (C) Ben Moore. It’s unusual to see this much talent on one team at the low-A level. On this most recent trip, I finally got my first look at high profile prospect Yoan Moncada (pronounced like the fish, cod). The first thing you notice is that he’s built. He looked to be about 5’11”, 200 LB’s and could pass for an NFL running back, not your typical 2nd baseman. I watched him during the warm up stretches and he was laughing it up with Dubon, Chavis and others, not much to go on but could be an indication that he’s a well liked teammate, not sure how his English is though. He was signing autographs right near where I was sitting and I shook his hand, he has very large hands which I found interesting. click the link for the rest of the article please. legendsondeck.com/1st-look-yoan-moncada/

Nice article. Like those really 1st hand looks, as you did there. Last fall, right after Rusney Castillo had signed my son and I were at the GCL championship games played in Tampa and got close looks. Have been trying to show him (he's 29) how I was taught by former Sox people many decades ago to approach it and what to look for. It takes awhile doesn't it? Things have changed also.

My family had a vacation home in a neighboring town to Winter Haven called Haines City, Grenelefe (the community we lived in) was a beautiful golf/tennis resort back in the early 90's. Always had ball players staying there during ST, i was good friends with the golf pro's family, and one night he pointed out a younger looking guy at a table full of players and said remember the name Manny Ramirez. And I agree, it always bummed me out as an autograph hunting youngster that Chain O Lakes was demo'd.

thanks John. I started coming around last Summer and I lurked for a while but i know for a fact I read some of your work in the GCL last yr and enjoyed it.
I never had much training I started writing about 6 months ago and my editor has helped me with a few tips but most of it just comes from reading others work and learning what to look for.
I appreciate you reading it.

I appreciate you reading it. I did and greatly appreciated it. Looked fine here, by my standards, which some care for and some don't. Have written here many, many times.. I was taught what to look for 30+ years ago (mostly) by Former Sox (then minor league managers) Rac Slider and Joe Morgan. They were more than kind to me with their time. Rac managed the W H Red Sox for well over a decade and Joe? He was a really swell guy, who saw each ST and I'd stand outside the 'cage, where he' talk incessantly about things to look for.. Hours sometimes if multiple MiLB sox teams were taking swings on the same field. Some of the guys here get tired of me writing this I think tho.. If you didn't know my background with the team, Those 2, Former Hasox GM Joe Dobson, scout George Digby.. Take care, JS

Moncada just laced a 3 run double into the right center gap, and also has a walk and two stolen bases tonight.

Greenville wins and Savannah loses. Drive lead by one game, with six games left in the first half. (FYI, I believe Savannah wins in the event of a tie)

for those keeping score, Carlos Peguero had previously been out-righted a couple years back.therefore, he is not out-rightable. Which is why Sox had to agree to contractual terms with him to prevent him from becoming a free agent. Which happened today.
Maybe he has an opt out in July if he isn't back in MLB. Or something.

My positive thought for the day. At least Arkansas lost. Their season is over. One day closer to Benny Baseball.

Yeah Greg, they sign him and that is the trickle down effect to get the rest done. Lowell starts soon and GCL. I saw that Vandy won with a walk off by Jeren Kendall the other guy we drafted ,he is a freshman.
I thinking positive and Benintendi gets fast tracked thru the system and kicks ass.
