Hanley seems to have a unique talent at being equally bad at all positions, so there may be some benefit to playing him at the most demanding one where his bat will help outweigh the negative defense. Maybe he could take 100 pitches a game at catcher.

Eduardo Rodriguez pitching against the best team (record-wise) in the AL with Betts and Bogaerts having the seasons they are having...boy am I excited for some Sunday baseball.

Has anyone noticed with E-Rod that his game has slowed down since he came up like 7 starts ago or whatever it was? Also he is not on the same page as Hannigan.
I would keep the young kids next year and not be so quick to get ride of one like the baseball reporters say.

This team runs into a LOT of outs.

I wish I had nine young kids starting. They might lose but I would not be as frustrated.

Wow, ROOT Sports has informed me of Hanley's wRC+ and McCullers' SIERA. I might have to become an Astros fan.

...That hype is always going to be there but in terms of actual MLB talent produced by the system, the past couple years have been miles ahead of what we'd been seeing. The Bogearts/Betts/Rodriguez trio are clearly the best string of prospect graduations this organization has seen since at least '08. I think Vazquez would be on that list if he hadn't gotten hurt. We all got to appreciate how good a defensive catcher he is, maybe one of the best. The system has produced, and I think it will keep doing so.

To be completely fair, it was a dumb idea but it took a hell of a play by the CF to get him.

I hope MLB is happy with the pace of games at the expense of horrible calling of balls and strikes. The situation is made even worse by guys like today's HP umpire who is horribly inconsistent.

Have you noticed umpires being worse/inconsistent? That meme is so false for the most part; yeah, they're human and it's dumb we haven't automated it yet but there's no way the umps are worse now relative to any other time in the last 20 years.

Brilliant piece of hitting by Hanigan. I wonder when teams will start playing all 3 OF in RF when he's up.

Well they're worse now because they're calling pitches strikes that are about 4-6 inches off the plate. I have no idea what kind of direction they're getting from each other or the league.

I agree the pitches 4 to 6 inches off the plate, particularly away is frustrating. Also the strike zone has increased from 435 sq inches to 475 sq inches between 2009 and 2014. espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/12320861/major-league-baseball-shrink-strike-zone-2016-report-says

What's Orsillo gonna do to top that?

ERod really needs more than 2 pitches. Otherwise, he's another Andrew Miller.
