(Anderson) Espinoza tracker:
1st inning: 5-3, Kl, Ks 2nd inning: 6-3, Ks, 4-3 3rd inning: 4-3, 1B - gb, rf (RHH), 1B - ld, rf (RHH), 6-4, (2-4-2 CS) - nice to see the D pick him up after failing to turn the DP. Note LAJ Basabe is playing out of position at short again today. 4th inning: Kl, HBP, 6-3, 6-3
And out. Kyle Martin in, beginning a rehab assignment.

I moved some good Espinoza discussion to that specific thread.

Lotsa stuff in Pawtucket/Portland:
Coyle to DL, Bianchi to TIA (they list it as 7/4 for some reason, but it's to play in the Pan Am Games), Wright reports, Spruill reports, Grags up from Portland
Chester and Roberson activated, Suarez back to Lowell.
EDIT: Apparently Aneury Tavarez will also play.

Devers' walk rate is very low this year. He's not striking out much and he's hitting well, but not so incredibly that I'd totally forgive him for being completely impatient. I hope he isn't really as aggressive as he seems to have been so far this year.

Travis 1-3, 3B, K Margot 1-2
Moncada 2-3, 2 SB Devers 1-2 Chavis 1-3, 2K
Chavis desperately needs to make more contact.

I hope he isn't really as aggressive as he seems to have been so far this year. In this new MLB with the enlarged strike zone, I wonder if that isn't a good thing. Anyway, patience isn't as important as selectivity, so, maybe he's just getting a lot of fat pitches?

I think when Devers starts finding his raw power in games more often, he's going to get pitched around a lot more often.

Kopech went a little bit wild tonight, 5bb. Been a while since we have seen too much of that from him.

Moncada now 13 for 13 on SB attempts.
He's still striking out at a high rate but Chavis has been hitting better lately. Contact rate is on the low side and I hope he can put the bat on the ball more consistently going forward.

Pat Light is getting ROASTED in AAA. Carlos Peguero is really intriguing to me, if only to be a strict platoon player—how capable is he of playing LF/1B and putting up an 800 OPS against righties? IF nothing else, hope he's able to get to 250 career minor league homers before hanging them up.
The Pawsox logo is so crap now.
Does Cecchini have an autoimmune disease or has he just forgotten how to play baseball? Really odd.
Marco Hernandez keeps trucking; .318/.341/.479 with 5 HR, though with an ugly 9/45 BB/K rate.
Not a lot has been said about Cerse; appears he hasn't played organized ball since 2012 and he's acquitting himself adequately so far. Bio says they're going to turn him into a utility player, but so far he's only played LF basically.

Kopech went a little bit wild tonight, 5bb. Been a while since we have seen too much of that from him. It came and went big-time. He walked or hit four of the first six batters (the others being a lineout and a flyout; there was also a sac bunt), and walked three of the last four (the other a groundout). In between, he got 8 guys in a row, four on swinging strikeouts: Ks, Ks, Ks, 63, P4, Ks, 43, 8. Meanwhile, Moncada is at .378 / .463 / .511 over his last 12 G / 54 PA.

Junior Espinoza: 5IP, 3H, 0ER, 0BB, 9K and Victor Garcia: 5IP, H, 0ER, 0BB, 5K Garcia went into this game having allowed a .145 SA.Which he reduced to .129. He's faced 113 hitters and allowed 12 singles and no XBH. (According to B-Ref and game recaps; just 10 according to milb.com, but I don't see how that can be right.) At 6'4", 204, he's got to throw at least somewhat hard, no?

I suspect that, considering his listed frame (which, FYI, may be inaccurate), if he did throw hard, he would have gotten more of a bonus (his bonus is unlisted, which usually means less than $100K).

Is it time to start asking about a Moncada promotion?

Is it time to start asking about a Moncada promotion? I would wait. He isn't hitting for much power yet and I think it would be good for him to have an extended period of success before putting him in a new league.

Although not the case here, I wouldn't assume that based on a guy's size. Daniel Gonzalez is 6-5, 210 and he's a soft tosser.

Is it time to start asking about a Moncada promotion? I'd personally wait until he's hit well for at least two, maybe three weeks. Call me crazy.

What's interesting is the K/9 of the current performers on the DSL level. None of Enmanuel DeJesus, Jhonathan Diaz, Jose Almonte, Daniel Gonzalez, Dioscar Romero, or Carlos Garcia ever pitched a season with more strikeouts than innings pitched, yet we have Denyi Reyes, Victor Garcia, Roniel Raudes, and even Junior Espinoza doing that right now. I wonder if the average DSL player is just less advanced these days now that there are more teams.
