Sample sizes in the DSL are large enough to take a look now. The sizeable bonus guys are all with the DSL1 team and are either doing OK but not lighting it up (Willis Figueroa, Hemerson Serven, and Marino Campana) or struggling terribly (Elwin Tejeda). I may look at their split and game logs at some later point.
Of the unheralded guys, all the good seasons are happening with the DSL team2. There's really only one guy who's exciting (hence the thread title). There’s also an interesting catcher, and three guys who have good numbers but with significant caveats. (Three more guys with good numbers are league veterans who are so old that I don't see anything there: Juan Hernandez, Pablo Urena, and Rafael Toribio. The latter two guys don't even play regularly.)
1) Lorenzo Cedrola. Venezuelan CF, turned 17 in January, 5'11" 170, RH, .347 / .431 / .467 (174 PA), 16/20 stealing. Even hotter recently. Far and away the breakout guy, so far. OBP exaggerated by 12 HBP, but that can actually be a skill ...
2) Carlos Pulido. Venezuelan C, turned 17 in February, 5'11" 170, switch hitter, .321 / .406 / .383 (96 PA). However, that was .405 / .477 / .459 on June 2 and .250 / .346 / .318 in his 52 PA since.
3) Freiberg Marin. Venezuelan 2B (though listed as a SS), turned 17 in September, 5'11", 170 (seriously), switch hitter, .246 / .326 / .333 (130 PA). Feasting on LHP (861 OPS vs. 597). Just because he's moved to 2B doesn't mean his defense isn't good, and if it is, he could be worth watching.
4) Stanley Espinal. Dominican 3B, turned 18 in November, 6'2", 188, RH, .303 / .344 / .451 (189 PA). Also feasting on LHP (993 OPS vs. 740). 16 errors in 37 games at 3B. That he signed a year late is a negative marker, but maybe he was just overlooked for some reason.
5) Ramfis Berroa. Dominican RF, turned 19 in November, 6'2", 190, RH, .295 / .303 / .455 (135 PA). Eating the bones of LHP (1464 vs. 746). White hot lately (12/20, 2 2B, 2 BB). Same caveat as Espinal, double.
