Before anyone gets excited, the best recent comp is the Adam Dunn trade from last year. OAK received Dunn at the waiver deadline, paid only $1mm of his remaining $2.3mm salary and traded a B-/C+ prospect.

He's looked so lost at the plate 80 percent of the time it loops like he swings/doesn't just for the sake of doing one of them, also Shane and mike have defensive value going to a nl team. Dunn was solely a dh and possibly a worse player than nap at this point. |

I'm a sucker for John Holdzkom. No command/control, but he averaged 95.5 on his fastball last year while being lights-out in the midst of a pennant race, and I love the Indy League guys. He's the kind of guy who might be available for a subsidized Napoli and combines proximately to the majors with some upside.

Any trade that gets them off the team so the Sox can prepare better for the next season is a good one, any salary taken or players received in return are a bonus.

He's still got an .823 OPS against lefties, Alvarez is at .188 BA and 0 homers |

Victorino would be a perfect addition for the Pirates IMO. Gives them a veteran presence down the stretch and a platoon option in RF for Polanco (who can't hit average high school lefties).

Not sure Napoli clears waivers in August. As many other posters have pointed out he is a better 2nd half hitter for his career and seems to be heating up. If he gets hot for the next month, I can see a few contenders claiming him if just to block him from going to another team. It might be worth the gamble to he can increase his value and get us a better return. In my opinion I trade him for whatever I can get for him by Friday. Would like to see us bring up as many young guys as we can and give them a shot and prepare for next season.
I would rather give someone like Cecchini two months to show what he can do in the big leagues at either 1B or 3B. Seems to be heating up, great time to call him up!

No one will claim him. Nap's pro rata salary is almost $6mm. If they do, let him be claimed. There's no prospect return coming worth anything close to $6mm. |

Given that Joe Gunkel, the guy we gave up for de Aza, is currently 4-2 2.82 for Bowie (AA..and those are his Baysox numbers only), getting Glasnow (5-3 2.43 with AA Altoona) or his Curve teammate Chad Kuhl (8-4 2.61) should be the price the Pirates pay.

Serious question: at this stage, is the $6m worth anything to us? It's pretty much a sunk cost, doesn't matter if we pay it or not. I'd eat all of Nap's salary if it got us anything at all in return.
