Just a reminder that Price and Cueto would not cost a pick because they were traded mid season. Good reminder and thanks. Cueto makes me nervous and Price long term at 31 does too. Price just turned 30.

Which is completely ridiculous - reprimand away, I say. I honestly think he has a higher projected wOBA keeping his bat on his shoulder at that point. How often do you think an AL rookie pitcher practices his swings? Even on a 3-0 meatball, I'm skeptical that Owens gets a hit more than, say, 20% of the time there. I'd also bet that he'd swing at ball 4 more often than get a hit. It's easy to say "swing at meatballs right down the middle", but someone with zero experience hitting is going to have to guess it's a meatball, not see it in time to swing at it.

I think this team's lack of plate discipline is concerning. Sandoval you expect it from, but Bogaerts, Hanley, and Mookie have just forgotten how to walk. Where's the disconnect? Is Chili Davis promoting an aggressive approach for these guys? I doubt it, but it's something that's been bugging me.

Napoli and Ortiz had trouble with the new strike zone. Who can blame them? Unless these umps improve, I don't have a big problem with a little more aggressive approach. Just not like Pablo's strike zone. Big toe to hair on top of head.

I would agree with you when talking about trading for rentals, which makes sense actually. Rentals will almost always give you production in a season when its very useful to you, while prospects could end up giving you production when it doesn't matter because you suck anyway. However, when trading prospects for long term solutions, I'm not sure I agree. If the Red Sox feel compelled to trade one of their catchers, it should be for a Lucas Giolito or Tyler Glasnow, not as part of a package for Sonny Gray. The cost of free agents is now so high and MLB has imposed so many obstacles to keep good teams from acquiring amateur talent that Red Sox can no longer keep trading prospects at full market value and count on their resources and player development prowess to make up the difference. Fortunately, with two wild cards, they shouldn't have to. They absolutely can. If they spend the money right. Like I showed, the money can get us to 28 WAR if we spend it at just an average rate. With Dombrowski, I'm confident he will spend the money right. If you end up keeping all your prospects, frequently you will end up with a massive disappointment. If you trade prospects for cheap guys like Sonny Gray (not Sonny Gray, he's overrated imo) you will gain certainty of performance and still retain the cheapness that makes prospects valuable. Remember the Marte for Crisp trade and all the whining that came with it? That was a fantastic trade.

DeGrom vs Sandoval wasn't even fair.

DeGrom vs Sandoval wasn't even fair. He's like that versus just about every batter. I want him on our team badly. I hope Espinoza turns into a pitcher like him.

I watch these guys throw and I ask myself, with all those draft picks over the last 5 -7 years, we couldn't get one guy who throws like this and develop him, even for our bullpen. I don't get that.

I was speaking about all the players where we got draft pick compensation under the old CBA and not one guy we drafted turns out to have mid 90's stuff that has filth to it. Seems strange, not sure I am even trying to assess blame.

Not many teams do have guys like that. True, and the Mets currently have a wealth of riches and probably luck, but I think my original point is valid, we haven't even put one in the bullpen.

Regarding Tazawa, his pitching in the last month or so reminds me of John Lackey's towards the end of 2011.

That fastball is unfair. That slider is unfair. That changeup is unfair. The way he can paint all 4 corners of the strike zone with all of his pitches is unfair.

Maybe there is hope for Barnes yet, he is 26 next year. Not asking for much.

At the start of the game. Degrom looked invincible and Kelly shaky. Kelly got better and finally Degrom is showing some cracks.

Haha, you're seriously complaining about the Sox's player development over the past few years? It's been the only thing they've done well.
