I was gonna put this in the Swihart thread but that's all about trading the poor guy so I started this- feel free to move it! Also if this has been brought up somewhere else already, please delete.
After moving Mookie to center and Hanley to left and now first, is there any possibility we start shifting other people around- namely Swihart. I remember reading that he had experience as an amateur at other positions in the infield and he also more than passes the eyetest when it comes to athletic ability/quickness/handsomeness. So what are the chances we could try him out at either corner infield spot? I was thinking it could help keep Hanley and Panda healthy AND give us a better chance/reason to keep Vasquez and Swihart on the roster longterm. A few games at DH, a few at first/third and a decent amount behind the plate- and you have another extremely useful utility player on your roster. Just postulating after I should have gone to bed.

Swihart would have to hit far better to even start thinking about it. Like a wRC+ of over 130.

It's always good for a plus-hitting catcher to be able to play a second position. Not only does it provide insurance for the regular guys at those positions, but it allows the catcher to still play while getting him out from behind the plate here and there. The secondary position is almost exclusively first base though (sometimes the corner outfield), and third base would certainly be a rarity. I don't see him learning anything other than some first base at this point -- anything more radical would probably have to follow a failure to become a capable defensive catcher, and I don't think that's going to happen.
