Apologies if this is in another thread, but George Lombard, the Red Sox' roving minor league outfield/baserunning coordinator since 2013 (and, before that, GCL Red Sox manager), has moved on to the Atlanta Braves, where he will be system-wide field coordinator as well as OF/BR instructor. link
Updating on November 11 based on P. Abraham reportage/Twitter feed:Billy McMillon moves from Portland manager to Lombard's old role of Red Sox' roving minor league base running/OF coordinator. Carlos Febles replaces McMillon as Portland's manager. Joe Oliver replaces Febles as Salem's manager. Iggy Suarez replaces Oliver as Lowell's manager, moving up from batting coach. No further announcements that I can see re.domestic affiliates, but I assume this means Kevin Boles, Darren Fenster and Tom Kotchman to remain at Pawtucket, Greenville and GCL Fort Myers.

FWIW, Murton was one of the "player-coaches" they used in the system this year, along with Joe Thurston, Nick Green, and Justin Henry. There was a similar transaction involving Henry recently. All of that was procedural - those players were not going to play.
I'm unsure of the reason for it, but it's probably some procedural issue. To throw a guess out there, maybe there's a rule that keeps them from having more than a certain number of coaches at each level, and therefore signing them as "players" and probably keeping them on an inactive list all year circumvents that?
As for Marban, he's Rule 5-eligible, but I doubt they'll protect him. Maybe some team would take a shot on him, but I don't think they'd miss him too much.

Pete Abraham reports today in his Red Sox Notebook in the Globe's print edition that Arnie Beyeler, fired as MLB first base coach in October, will join the Marlins' organization and will manage the Triple-A New Orleans Zephyrs (PCL) in 2016. That would reunite him with Lou Schwechheimer, the Zephs' new president who spent 30 years as GM of the Pawtucket Red Sox. The two worked together in 2011-12. Link.

WMB to Brewers...Jenny won't be happy to leave SD to go to Milwaukee (or their AAA team in Colorado Springs).....Also, he has to (again) fight playing time with Cecchini in AAA unless one starts on the big club.

WOW, I lived in Colorado Springs and attended several games there. (Jack Cust is the next Babe Ruth). I didn't realize they had changed their affiliation.

Yeah, they Brewers had their AAA team in Nashville last year, but that stadium was old & the city didn't cooperate to build a new stadium. The Rockies had their AAA team in Colorado Springs & moved to Albuquerque. Not sure why they did that. I don't know how these teams can do it with their triple a team so far away like the Mets in Las Vegas. Must be tough with the constant shuffle/call ups. We can call Pawtucket at 3 pm & have a guy ready to play a few hours later.

The old stadium (Greer) is used for high school games now.

That's like Providence building a new stadium & the Sox leaving after a year. Isn't there a lease agreement?

I believe most minor league affiliation agreements are 2 years. Likely same people own the minor league team in Nashville, they just made a change to their affiliation with a ML club

There was a major shakeup in Triple-A affiliations after 2014 and the Oakland Athletics -- supplanted in Sacramento by the Giants -- changed their affiliation to Nashville, signing a two-year PDC. Former GCL Red Sox manager and outfield/baserunning coordinator George Lombard didn't stay long with the Braves (whom he joined as minor league field coordinator in September). He's now on Dave Roberts' staff as first base coach with the MLB Dodgers. Good for him. Billy McMillon replaced Lombard as the Red Sox' roving OF/baserunning coordinator. They'll have to replace Tim Hyers as hitting coordinator, too, as he has teamed up with Roberts in LA as well. Maybe a bump up to roving system-wide hitting coordinator is where Gedman lands next year.

Allen Webster released from Pittsburg without throwing a pitch. I thought it may have been a good low risk sign. Still think he would be a good middle reliever project until I saw he has no options. I can see him signing with a "rebuilding" team. Phi/Atl/Milw maybe.
