We have all watched John's hair getting grey over the past few years. Running a team is not just a tough job, it is also quite stressful. Stress causes the deprrssed immune systems which result in cancer, cardio-vascular and other life threatening issues.
He is a conscientious alpha who is used to being in charge and juggling profoundly complex decisions 24/7 (despite baseball being 'just a game'). He also has a conscience, and is compelled to do an above average job.. This is stressful.
All this to say I hope for his sake and that of his family that he doen't feel compelled to rush back into the arena. It isn't wise and it isn't healthy. I hope he takes his time, enjoys some famiily and friend time, and eases back in to the grind. Remission means it is held at bay. Let's keep ot that way.

Great news about John. Now he needs to take the winter months to get his strength back. Looking forward to seeing him, and Torey, in the dugout at Fort Myers.

Fantastic news, he's one of the good guys. Take your time and get back to the dugout and let's go last to first again.

With Flip Saunders dying of lymphoma today, it just goes to show how lucky Farrell was. Here's a short piece regarding the type of lymphoma Farrell has/had: www.webmd.com/cancer/lymphoma/burkitt-lymphoma-prognosis-diagnosis-treatments"Recognized as the fastest growing human tumor, Burkitt lymphoma is associated with impaired immunity and is rapidly fatal if left untreated." Apparently, this little bugger likes to spread to the fluid surrounding the spinal cord and brain and ultimately take you down that way.

juggling profoundly complex decisions 24/7 Uh... like what? Have you never yelled at the TV, protesting decisions made by a field manager? IMO 8 months of baseball is an emotional roller coaster. It is, as I said, just a game but it is a game which from ST to postseason, impacts millions of lives every day and in many ways, mostly visceral. That game Is managed by one guy whose decisions (on PH, PR, Various bunts and sacrifices, Shifts, choice of relievers, short or long hooks, Hit and Run, SB, how to react and manage issues of players, coaches, FO, Media, etc.) impact the course of that game and every game and, therefore, the lives of millions, for much of every year. John is not figuring the profundities of Einstein's Theory of Relativity, or Aquinas's Prime Mover. But his moves during a baseball game are, in context, profoundly difficult because, whether derived from his gut or FO numbers, with the game regularly in the balance, his moves are as likely to fail as they are to succeed. This is every day and, because he is conscientious, pretty much all day. The stressors of life at an intense level, 162+ times per year, plus pre and post game. As fulfilling and rewarding this must be (we would all enjoy it, at least we thinks so) it is stressful and dangerous while in remission unless done right.
