To clarify... Peter is offense and Paul is pitching. I'm very excited about Peter this year. As long as the corner infield isn't Judas.

Obviously the Marlins don't have to trade Fernandez so they'll only deal him if they can rip off another team sort of the way the Braves ripped off the DBacks. Can't blame them for trying. It would be the Sox who would be stupid if they agreed to such a deal. I really can't imagine what anybody here thought it would cost to actually get Fernandez in a deal. All the hand wringing over losing Margot and Guerra as if that was preventing the Sox from landing Fernandez. In a year or two the Marlins will be more serious about dealing Fernandez and the cost will come down a lot. I'd still rather keep the talent and try to spend the big bucks on him as a free agent. I think that in the desire to get the best player sometimes it's easy to forget that the idea is not to get the best player but rather to assemble the best team and if you have to wreck your major roster and/or destroy your farm to get a guy, he simply isn't worth it.

Did the Sox address their 1B/3B situation somehow and I missed it?

Did the Sox address their 1B/3B situation somehow and I missed it? Bowden had stated previously he thought the whole "will Hanley fit at 1B" issue as the biggest non story of the offseason, so he never saw an issue the way so many here do. I have to say this is one time I agree with him. He went on to say, if under the most remote of chances Hanley can't play 1B, then just flip flop him and Sandoval, and let Hanley play 3B, and Sandoval 1B. He felt Shaw, Holt, and Marrero was about as solid an insurance backup as could be. He's right

Did the Sox address their 1B/3B situation somehow and I missed it? Really? Come on. No matter what you think of Shaw and Sandoval, the rotation and bullpen were clearly the catalyst for failure in 2015. The bullpen alone cost enough games for the Sox not to compete.

You'd think so, but then you see the Shelby Miller trade and think that even if you make a ridiculous opening ask, every once in a while the opposing GM is dumb enough to accept it.

I really have to think there was something there or not there in Swanson & co for Tony LaRussa/Dave Stewart to make that trade. He (LaRussa) seems too smart to just get fleeced for a #2. This is normally a trade that gets you a Gray/Kluber type pitcher. Maybe with LaRussa having Shelby in St Louis gave him some insight.
