I know it's rare to trade intra-division, but all this talk about Rays trading starting pitching has me thinking of Matt Moore.
I know he was terrible last year after his TJ return, but he was a top tier starter. Wonder what it would take to pry him away. Could we leave the top 5 in tact if we were to include an Owens or Johnson?
He's no sure thing but he'd probably love reuniting w Price.
Wishful thinking but I would love another talented arm like that.

You were right that Matt, overall, had a poor year, but he was a lot better over the last few weeks. He has very good stuff and IMO be an upgrade over a couple of our guys. But, as you stated, the Rays would have to have an absolute grand-slam to trade with us.
On a positive note: I really see us having a much better rotation 1 thru 5 next year, and I think our depth is better than anyone else.
It was not a delusion that Porcello and Kelly had much more success over their last 8 to 9 starts. The defense on the left side was so vastly better that many of our pitchers felt more confident about not having to make a perfect pitch and just getting the ball in play. With Castillo or Chris Young in left, Bradley in center, and an average Sandoval at 3rd....things will be better any how.

It sounds like Dombrowski and Co loves Joe Kelly. So them upgrading the rotation probably requires someone who is clearly better. Moore, with his poor year post TJ, is another question mark. I don't see them targeting a question mark to replace a question mark. I think if we see an upgrade in the rotation it'll be a clear upgrade.

I also really doubt that the Rays would sell low on him unless they know something the Red Sox doesn't.

With all the talk of them moving Odorizzi, prob to LA, I can't see them moving both. I don't know if I'd trade Owens for Moore straight up at this point. There has been a lot of pitchers that, for whatever reasons, never come back from TJ.
