I see what you did there. Lol. Baseball is more than its box scores or analytics. It's history is so often inextricably entwined with the issues of the larger world. Red Sox history is rmore richly textured than most, and profoundly human. We do well to understand and honor it.

The Red Sox sold the greatest player in history to finance a musical, waited longer than any other team to hire black players, and, if that wasn't bad enough, introduced a mascot!

Tessie was also a song ripped from a popular musical in the early 1900's about a woman singing to a beloved parakeet lol. Without Dropkick, no one would even care. who could just as easily be called Wilma or Wendy or Hermione. What's the Red Sox significance in those names? They want their mascot to have a name that is intrinsically Red Sox.

Clever Honest question: Did you think they named the mascot Tessie by pure coincidence? You do know that the song is the whole point of the name, right? Sorry. I'm just really confused by this post otherwise.

I've noticed for years that the number of young people going to games is down, No stats to prove it. just observation. Some of it is probably cost and how late games go. Anything that gets young people interested is fine with me. And my kids in their 30's still give me grief for never doing the wave.

20 year old speaking: cost is the most central factor in not being able to attend too many games.
