Once he passes through waivers, which I'm sure he will, I can see him just packing it in. I don't believe he HAS to play for another team if he doesn't want to as he will basically be a FA. I hope Justin Upton can pull himself out of this season long funk, otherwise his deal/age are eerily similar to Carl's. I think Upton will be fine but his defense is lackluster so that's always going to limit his value.

He's still owed about $31m. No way he's packing it in. Even if he doesn't sign with anyone, he'll still collect that money. I believe he would have to accept the assignment to collect the money.

Crawford is hard to respect. Chronic complainer, but no matter how he was treated here, all he has proven is that the venue of his failures was never the cause of them. Not that Crawford exactly covered himself in glory with some of the things he said, but when a guy signs a zillion dollar contract at the precise moment when his skills and his body desert him, it's gonna be an ugly scene no matter what.

Agreed, that's the bummer of it all. Because of his free fall skill-wise, there was no way anything positive was coming to fruition.

I think Ray is thinking of the Allen Craig situation (where Craig had to report for AAA to collect his salary). That only applies to players with less than 5 years of service time. For players like Crawford with 5+ years of service time, he doesn't have to accept the DFA and can elect free agency and still collect the guaranteed money owed to him.

Yordano Ventura is a total d***.

You'd think that Perez could have gotten in front of a hobbling Machado to cut him off before he got to the mound, but Perez has got to be tired of babysitting Ventura at this point. He single handedly kept Ventura from getting his clock cleaned by Mike Trout.

Yordano Ventura is a total d***. Glad to see baseball continues to do such a great job of policing itself.

Glad to see baseball continues to do such a great job of policing itself. Speaking of policing itself, could you imagine if Ventura pitched in the NL?

It almost looked like Perez purposely let Machado get a step to allow Manny to get to Ventura first. Heck, Chris Davis almost got there before Manny. I'm sure teams will be lining up to trade for this headcase.

Both are in the wrong but I'm not shedding any tears seeing Machado get plunked.

Current projected future Win% by division, properly adjusted for SoS (with standard deviation as a measure of competitiveness):

.477 +/- .109 NL East .466 +/- .054 AL West .461 +/- .073 AL Central

Couldn't happen for a nicer guy. Tom has been a tremendous source of information for many years, who always had time for a personal request. Hugely happy for him, and for what this means for us in gaining greater access to solid data.

Great, great news. It sounds like a dream job for him, because he's always been about advancing the overall knowledge of the game.

Watched some of the Angel/MFY last night on MLB. LAA has the worst bullpen in the history of the MLB. The Yankees were taking slow pitch softball swings on them. The Angels will be sellers, but what do they have to sell beyond Trout? Kole Calhoun would be a good fit, but probably too expensive.

9 Games for Ventura and 4 games for Machado following on field brawl. Both set to appeal.

I wouldn't mind trading for Rougned Odor if we were scheduled to face Ventura.

I wouldn't mind trading for Rougned Odor if we were scheduled to face Ventura. Or Kyle Farnsworth. Especially if we have to fight Bautista eventually.

I wouldn't mind taking him off the Royals hands. Yep, I'd definitely be in on a cut-price Ventura.
