I suppose this diminishes the chance we sign him to a reasonable deal in FA, if that ever had a decent chance at all at happening.

Maybe it diminishes the chance we sign him to a deal you consider reasonable, but I don't think it diminishes our chances of signing him.

Situation seemed strange. There were initial reports that Baltimore was going to sign both. Then came the "unofficial" word that Baltimore was signing Gallardo. Only after reports that that deal was falling apart, did we get the follow report about Fowler signing (nothing from the team, mind you).
Then Gallardo's deal is officially announced (after a restructure) and now Fowler is headed to Chicago.

Too bad for Baltimore. Bet they sign Austin Jackson now.

Four or five injuries and he could probably make Iowa's roster? Odd fit there.

I suppose there's no way John Henry can arrange to have 19 of those games vs the Sox.

Dodger Insider @dodgerinsider
Brett Anderson is scheduled to have arthroscopic surgery this morning for a bulging disc. He is expected to miss three to five months.

#Dodgers have depth, yes, but they'll also have 4 starters on DL on Opening Day (Anderson, Ryu, Montas, McCarthy).

While we're on the subject, the ideal system for me would involve eliminating the forfeiting of picks by teams who sign significant free agents and instead just compensating the teams who lost the most net free agents-- in other words, the NFL system. Create some number of comp picks between the first and second round, and the teams who lost the most in terms of net contract value get those picks in order. You could weigh it by how long the free agent was a member of his previous organization (in other words, a team losing a player who was on the roster for 6+ years gets a multiplier over a player who was traded for at the deadline). The ideal system for me is no system at all. The rewards for drafting well are already quite high, there is no need for additional "compensation".

They're going to miss Greinke. You can bet dollars to donuts that the Dodgers will initiate trade talks with the Sox this spring. Don't forget that they also haven't come up with a replacement for not trading for Chapman. Wright, Kelly, Owens, Johnson, Smith, Elias would all have to be of interest.

I was just being a smart@ss regarding Anderson, who had his first healthy season in 6 years last year.
