I hope I'm wrong but I think Sox will be looking to add a #2 starter come trade deadline, not an OF.

We have spent over $10 mil per year for 2 years in a row waiting for Castillo to be more than our 5th outfielder. There is a clock ticking for Castillo to make something good happen or he's gone within a year. Not really. He was a rookie last year with his first few hundred ABs in a couple of years of defection induced rust. He plays the OF very well, and after a few deer in the headlight gaffes, quickly mastered LF and the Monster. Like JBJ, his defense makes him valuable. Also like JBJ, if he regains his former prowess with the bat, he will be very valuable, as well as a LF big bopper. With Young, Holt, Shaw currently available to back him up for a while, we have time to see who he is without the rust and also acculturated. Patience and/or DDo are needed now.

Furthermore, that was the first fly ball ever hit to him as a CFer in his pro career. It wasn't hit to him, it was hit to Jonny Gomes...

There's a good chance that the entire Cleveland series might be cancelled.
Mon: Rain and Snow Tue: 34 F Wed Rain and wind Thur Rain and snow
If so, would they go back to FL for a few days?

If they try to play on Tuesday at 34F, I would not start Price. It could screw up his arm. I would save him for Toronto on Friday and pitch Wright. Wright would probably be more effective with that wind and cold.

I can't recall an MLB game being cancelled just because it was cold, which suggests that they'll get the opener in. Right now, Wednesday does look bad and Thursday looks iffy, so that's all the more incentive to get at least the opener in. This is their only trip to Cleveland; making up more than one game will be a challenge.

Anecdotally from memory, only with the wind blowing out. A following tailwind doesn't seem to hurt. Wind is out on Wednesday, in the other days. Wind direction in or out had no effect on fair-contact % for either Wakefield or Dickey.

Wright pitched the friday night game in Montreal, would they really make him start his season on short rest?

IIRC, it's the lack of wind that hurts knuckleball pitchers most because the pitches lack the usual movement. You never want a knuckleball pitcher pitching in a dome.

Got to hang out with Wilbur Wood, the night of the inaugural Chicago Hall of Fame class of 1990. He told me exactly what you just wrote about why he had 21 wins at the ASB, and didn't get to 30. "The wind just died for the rest of the season," was his response. I could tell he was tired of answering that question and moved on to talking highlights of his career.

Hey, just remembered something ... no predictions contest this year?

I haven't been posting much in some time because of other activities but I am paying attention. I like the starting lineup for the most part. I don't think Brock Holt should be the LF. If they have decided that Castillo can't be the starter, then they really need to get someone else. I am very happy to see Shaw get a shot at a starting position. I have liked him for a while.
I am uneasy about the starting pitching. I am not convinced that it is good enough to get the Sox into the post-season.
I think this is a better team than last year and the Eastern Division is up for grabs. So anything could happen. I have not made predictions this year because there just are too many uncertainties all across MLB.
