Well, I haven't been able to watch since I'm not in NESN's viewership area, but my first reaction is that these guys have worked together for three games, so maybe you should give them some time to feel each other out first. You wouldn't expect a new double-play tandem to be Whitaker and Trammell on day three, would you? Also, I'm going to guess that if NESN made money on Spring Training games, they'd broadcast them all, but that chances are they probably don't, so they only broadcast a selection of them. I'm guessing a lot of people, in a general sense (as in not just 2016), are going to tune in to Celtics and Bruins games that count rather than watch Cole Sturgeon hit against a Twins Double-A JAG, y'know? I am sure they will establish their own personal and working style over time. But I hope that style allows for quiet time so we can watch what is happening, as opposed to listening to often irrelevant monologue when a pitch is made. I am fully aware of the issues surrounding Don and Jerry, but during most of their time together we had opportunities to watch the action. I finally had to mute yesterday's game so I could follow it, so I can't say with accuracy how many players were described by their RBI's alone. Even I, who see value in RBI's, was concerned. Finally, I am sure NESN is available at soxprospects south, as it was to me when I lived im Florida, and as it is now where I live in soCal. I pay heavily for Direct TV which carries NESN, and then pay heavily, again, to subscribe to NESN, as do thousands of others, so there is a financial base for showing these games. I am quite sure their ad-sales staff could make these games more profitable than an infomercial or obscure golf tournament. It is more than frustration at missing Moncada, Owens, Wright, Hanley, Panda as they get into game shape. This is the Red Sox station, with NESN and NESN + channels, owned by the Red Sox, and it should be showing Red Sox games, all of them. Anything less is silly. Simple solution to that....the mute button. I am so glad we will have a PBP guy doing the games rather than an entertainer, because lets face it that's what Orsillo was. I just didn't enjoy it because it distracted from the game. I get my entertainment from watching TV Shows and Movies. I get my enjoyment from watching sports out of the players playing the game. Not the people talking about it. I am very happy we will get less of that this year.

Is it too much to ask for there to be someone to do some kind of research on each team prior to each series about prospects/advanced statistics/whatever? I'm amazed when Jerry can pronounce a guy's name right.

I'm amazed when Jerry can pronounce a guy's name right. Time to relay a contrasting memory. The setting was the year the Sox did some spring training in Japan then returned for two warmup games against the Dodgers. The MLB announcer for the first game was Vin Scully. Late in the game, Brandon Moss (still a prospect at the time) was inserted into the game and Vin talked about what a nice young man he was and told a story about Brandon's grandmother that I had never heard. Next day, Remy and whoever had the game. Later in the game, a dodger top prospect was inserted. Jerry's in depth profile was "here's some guy wearing number 80".

Watched the game the other day & I can't remember who was calling the game along with Remy. Ali Solis was catching the last 4 innings or so. Every play he made, they called him Dan Butler. They should at least know who's playing on their own team.

Agree with Temple here (did I just say that?) Orsillo was fine, but O'Brien is another league as far as pbp goes. He's done tele-VISION before, too. Lots of it. He knows what he's doing. It is unfortunate he's in a partnership with Remy. Remy is awful. Absolutely true. Orsillo is short season A ball compared to big leaguer OB. I love listening to the games on radio and the more noticeable difference is going to be the absence of OB with Castig. I haven't heard the new guy yet but from what I've read, he's decidedly average. We shall see. As for Remy, like many ex professional athletes, he started out pretty well but after a while, they become the show. I couldn't stand listening to the Jerry Remy show playing in the background of a baseball game. My hope is that OB causes Remy to add a level of professionalism to calling the games that has been sorely lacking in the NESN booth. When will we get OB and Eck? That would be a good team IMHO. Regarding the new guy on radio. He is very average. Sounds like most baseball commentators do. He comes off like he pays close attention to the game, which hardcore baseball fans will appreciate. Professional-sounding guy. But it doesn't sound like he can replicate the character Dave added to the broadcast.

Vin Scully the announcer is not only buttoned down, even at age 90, but has always taken time to do deep background on the human element of the game. All his games have such stories, though this one about Moss sounds like it was handed to him from one of his many such sources. I doubt the Dodgers would even be as popular here in soCal without his caring, intelligent approach. I remember him being introduced at the old ST DodgerTown where, even in FL he got standing O's and adoring crowds. Ditto at the old LAD minor league team in San Bernardino, and the former AA Dodgers Jax Suns FO spoke in reverent tones about him. The closest I can think of with the Sox is the love by fans and players shown to Pesky, also a caring, intelligent personality. We have often heard RemDog, Eck, Lyons (colormen, not announcers) along with Orsillo, O'Brien and TC complain about the lack of accurate player information when it comes to the end of ST games. Every team prints out and distributes reams of information for the press box, including assigned player numbers. This information isn't always accurate, but it is all anyone in the booth or press box get. IMO, for color guy Remy to say theres a new guy wearing #80 is more frustration and his rye humor than him not knowing or caring enough to know. When such a player suddenly shows up, and there is no information about him . . . I remain more concerned that The Red Sox station, NESN, refuses to cover ST Red Sox games when MLB, YES, MASN, etc. do. Adding to the lack of game coverage are the 10 second sound bites of a few game highlights repeated every 20 minutes on a dozen showings of NESN Live. Unlike RemDog's informationless #80, such programming, coming off a baseball-starved winter, is uncaring and disrespectful to its subscriber-fans. Just my opinion.

I know I am a bit late to this discussion, but...
Tbh I am appalled at ST coverage by NESN. What else do they have to broadcast on weekday afternoons? Bruins replays? I live in the Hartford area and was a Whalers season ticket holder. I still hate the B's with a passion, lol. The only reason I would watch them is to root for their opposition (Go Habs Go!). Celtic replays? Other than that on NESN weekday afternoons right now? Old episodes of The Mad Fisherman? Dining Playbook repeats? They think those replays/repeats will get better ratings instead of broadcasting ST games live? Really?
Many of us are very interested in ST because we get a chance to see the next generation of Red Sox players, players we rarely get a chance to see once camp breaks. The last I checked neither the B's or the Celtics play many weekday afternoon games. And they can show repeats/replays of those games and the other shows they broadcast the remaining 21+ hours of the day. Never mind the fact the have NESN Plus if they don't want to disappoint all the potential viewers of those repeats/replays! Is it because they don't have to pay the crew they have down there if they don't broadcast the games?

They don't want to overwork Remy.

The MLB site has the Red Sox broadcasting the Twins game on NESN, but it isn't. This is annoying.
