I'm actually leaving the house exactly at first pitch and arriving home about 9:30 or later, when I'll sit down with my DVR. I've never heard anyone at my local arthouse cinema (the great Coolidge Corner Theater) talking about sports, so I'm hoping that no bozo says anything to a friend while I'm in earshot. So I'll be posting to the game thread with a 5:30 delay. Meanwhile, I'm not sure which I'm looking forward to more, the 2016 season or this double bill of Midnight Special (from writer / director Jeff Nichols, Take Shelter) and Green Room followed by a Q&A with writer / director Jeremy Saulnier (2014's Blue Ruin, which edged Gone Girl as the year's best thriller for me, 8.9 to 8.8 in extra innings). I don't think Alia Shawkat has any chance of hitting Price's fastball, but I've got my fingers crossed. Meanwhile, wind chill at 4:00 PM will be 20 degrees.

Was all set to flee the office at 3:30. And of course, tomorrow, I have a meeting at 1pm that I can't miss.

Pete Abraham @peteabe 4m4 minutes ago #RedSox had planned to bring David Price back on regular rest on Saturday. Now that will be Steven Wright with Price on Sunday . . . Interesting or very uninteresting as the case may be, Wright's opponent will be Dickey.

For months, our sports viewing is taken up by the martial, do-or-die schedule of football often right into February with the Patriots, then the playoff push in basketball and/or hockey and the frenetic college basketball tournament ... every game high stakes.
Then there's always a moment early in the Sox season when I am somehow reminded, "Oh yeah, this is baseball, I can just relax and chill. We've got months of daily games to go and so many losses and rainouts no matter what happens."
Handy of the weather in Cleveland to get me in that mindset right away.

Feels like my parents just told me on Christmas morning that Santa is coming on the 26th instead.

Is anyone as po'd at the arrogance of MLB as I am? 14 warm weather or domed stadium teams and they start the season with games in Milwaukee, Cleveland, NY, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati??
LA at SD?? Why? Toronto at Tampa? Why? I hope they lose a lot of ticket revenue and viewership for this dumb scheduling....
And, don't get me started about no salary cap, DH in only one league, umpires calling balls and strikes when they have video to call them accurately....

I think it is because the warm-city teams do not want their schedules front-loaded to first half of April when attendance and TV viewership isn't there.

Yes, they can willingly produce less revenue because a couple games will be postponed in the first couple weeks of the season. Someone can check me, but I think there were 24 postponed games last year. 7 in April. So 2430 games a season and less than 1 percent is rained out. I think I can live with that.
In 2014, 34 postponed games (one due to a water main break). 6 in April.
Not a big deal.

Hmm, I'm not sure what to expect from this series. I am not scared at all by Cleveland's line up, but that starting pitching...Welp. Anyway, baseball. And gone. Hasta manana

One a clock start time on a Tuesday is absolutely ridiculous. What a slap in the face to fans. Cleveland had trouble filling seats as it is. Not many are going to be able to get out of work or school on one days notice. I get there are some people who dont work or going to school during the day but the vast majority of us do.

It is truly silly that they can't schedule the games during opening week in domes or warmer areas. Not just the postponements, but also playing baseball in below-freezing weather is silly. It's not going to solve everything, but it could help. Also, don't schedule the interleague game between potential playoff teams. It's so weird that KC is handing out rings in front of the Mets, not to mention raising the banner.
