Has Teddy Stankiewicz started doing something differently? I'd pretty much given up on him having upside any more than a possible swingman, but that's two really, really nice starts in a row to start in AA. And, he's still pretty young for AA. Encouraging...

FWIW, Hartford's got a pretty talented lineup with Dahl, Tapia, and McMahon.

Raudes with 4 sparkling innings so far with only 49 pitches!

Shepherd finally allowed a base runner (single) after 19 up 19 down to start the year.
Good game 1-1 11th. There's a lot of talent in the EL this year.
The end of the 5th for the SalSox came when Dubon got caught stealing third with Devers up. Tsk, tsk, tsk.
Beeks done, Pimentel in. Beeks has decent stuff for a lefty but a pretty complex delivery.
Raudes done after giving up a 3 run HR in the 5th. Drive down 5-2. Raudes off his signature control, allowed 5 walks and had three wild pitches.

Raudes with 4 sparkling innings so far with only 49 pitches! The MILB box score just changed: now showing him walking 5, giving up 5R, w/2 hr.

Salem up 3-1 in the 7th. Meyers triple, Moncada sac fly that almost went out.
Both Portland and Hartford scored garbage runs in the 12th. On to the 13th.

Good stuff is nice, but great command is a more than adequate substitute even with average stuff.

Varvaro with yet another very good appearance. Could help the MLB team I think.

Chandler Shepard now with 10k/7IP, one hit. Coming on strong. Could it be the Sox are finally developing some quality relievers?

His ball seems to have some late life, which I did not see last year. I think you hit the nail on the head, very encouraging! If he can miss a few bats with his FB (which he hadn't been), that would be a big development. He's had pretty good control, but his K:BB ratio has been poor because his K rate has been truly bad. It may be that he's developing command well enough to not only further lower his walk rate, but more importantly, start getting guys looking, or swinging at pitcher's pitches. Too bad we don't have O- and Z-swing numbers on him. He supposedly hit 96 in JC, so a tick or two on the FB and a better velo separation with his secondaries might be going on too. It'd be huge if Stanky suddenly turned himself into a legit mid-rotation candidate. I've got to think he'll get promoted at mid-season if he keeps this up.

Love this time of year. Josh Ockimey enters with a 710 OPS, goes 2/4, HR, BB, and leaves with 870 (.241 / .353 / .517).

The gameday was changed and reflects what you heard from Ed Jensen (but 4 K's). Final was 8-3. I'm thinking MiLB was hacked because in the fifth where it was showing all the walks and wild pitches, I went to the log out of curiosity and all that stuff was there as well.

Ockimey's a big boy that looks pretty athletic and has a ton of power. He won't be seriously tested until AA.

I know it is early, but he needs to make more contact to get to double a.

I don't think anyone actually answered your question, but I'm almost certain Alex Speier mentioned something about him changing his arm angle this year.

I have to say....Raudes just continues to string along these above average starts time and time again (dating back to DSL/GCL). He might be the most fascinating prospect with a tepid scouting report that I've come across. I have to think that even if the 'stuff' is pedestrian, his poise and control must be incredibly advanced. If the stuff develops (I mean he's 18), he seems to have the other qualities to make a pretty interesting prospect.

Isn't his strike out rate actually increasing versus last year? I know it is early, but he needs to make more contact to get to double a. Ockimey is only one of the possibilities that I was referring to (my intent was more towards the Drive team as a whole, lots of sleepers there). With his power (he's only 20) and slightly above average bat speed, he'll catch his share of extra base hits. The reason I mentioned AA is that I'm not that excited about his mechanics and we'll have to see what happens when he gets a higher ratio of crooked pitches. To me, in a lot of ways, he's similar to Kiri Washington except that I like Kiri's swing better. Both big guys with natural power, athletic, with above average bat speed.
