They're going to call him Drew Frowny once Chris Young is done with him.

With Noe Ramirez Optioned down could we see an Edwin Escobar sighting?

Noe Ramirez to Pawtucket, no announcement who replaces him. Possible 40 man choices are Hembree, Light, Escobar, Elias, Owens, Johnson. Doubt they move Owens or Johnson to the pen, probably don't need a 3rd lefty with Elias and Escobar, and it's likely a temporary move until Carson Smith is ready. So do they have Hembree keep the seat warm until Carson is ready, or give Light a shot to see if his stuff works in the bigs? My guess is Hembree

My guess is Hembree for the reasons discussed above.

Anthony Varvaro could deserve another shot. Pablo to the 60 day dl? Wouldn't hurt my feelings. But yea, probably Hembree. I don't think their scared to use him for multiple innings.

I really like Varvaro as a possible option for the pen. It's probably Hembree this time (unless Pablo's shoulder looks terrible), but Varvaro was a good reliever who could pitch multiple innings. Sox need that, at least until Rodriguez bumps one of the current starters to the pen.

It is going to be real interesting to see who goes to the pen in a week or so. Buch looked good yesterday. Wright has pitched real well. If (big if) Kelly goes 7 IP with 1 ER 8K tonight, it'll be a tough choice. Good problem to have.

Kelly starts, throws his usual 80 pitches to get through 3 innings, then Wright gets you to the 7th.

Sox need that, at least until Rodriguez bumps one of the current starters to the pen. If they want Varvaro and don't want to put Sandoval on the 60-day DL, they could DFA Brentz or Coyle and have them clear, I'm pretty sure. So that's probably not an issue. But once Smith and Rodriguez return, they'd have to option Ross to keep Varvaro. It might be smarter to stash Varvaro against the possibility of a long-term injury, as unfair as that would be to him.

This team needs a long-man in the bullpen. All these one-inning appearances (not to mention two pitch appearances) compounded by the short starts by the starters is going to kill our bullpen. I wonder if Johnson could fill this role.

Yeah, good points. Does Varvaro have any kind of opt-out? If not, stash away ... if so, optioning Ross isn't the end of the world, and DFA'ing Brentz is fine with me.

I am solidly behind Joe Kelly today. Team needs to win 2 out of 3 on the season opening 10 game home stand to finish it .500. I would love a sweep...Captain Obvious...but I won't allow my normal opinion of Joe Kelly to rise to the surface. I ride on the good karma train today.

I wonder if Johnson could fill this role. Well, I'm sure it's not exactly the case that Tazawa was only capable of throwing 2 pitches yesterday, so an upgrade at manager could solve a lot of problems and you wouldn't even need a 40-man roster spot to do it.

Who is Young taking AB's from tonight? My guess is JBJ or Shaw the Brock man it is Brock Holt currently has the 3rd-highest WAR on the Sox... and the 8th-most plate appearances. Oh well, as they say, never go with the hot bat.

Brock Holt had yesterday off. Wait, if they knew a lefty was coming, why didn't they schedule Holt's (and Ortiz') day off tonight instead?
The mind reels.

Well, JA Happ is a lefty so it was fine to have him play yesterday. But they basically played Rutledge instead of Ortiz yesterday, which is the more troubling thing. But I guess early AM game after a night game and all that plays a part.

Im almost worried that Young finally gets a couple hits and Farrell falls even more in love with him.
