Moncada at .357 / .509 / .524 with 13 SB in 12 games. How long before there's a god reason to go to a SeaDogs game? OTOH, the 0 HR and 4 CS are certainly cause for anguish and grief.Still a 76% ratio and on the HRs, he's hitting equal HRs to all fields.

Just visual observations. Moncada looks like he's aiming for the gaps with a fast bat swing. Dubon looks like he's trying to get on base. Benintendi looks like he's looking for something to drive but has the best contact skills so that driving range is wide. Devers looks like he's trying to hit 50 HRs.

Every time I've watched Devers at the plate it looks like he's absolutely trying to hit the ball 600 feet. He's got one hell of an enormous powerful swing. Dubon has been a lot of fun to watch in this lineup for Salem.

I'm far more impressed with him than Padres Asuaje, Lin, Rios.

OTOH, the 0 HR and 4 CS are certainly cause for anguish and grief.I assume your second line wasn't a typo. The continued existence of Hadlock Field means there is always a good reason to go to Sea Dogs game, BUT it would certainly be nice to have a god reason to go. And Yoan Moncada falls comfortably into the category of a god reason. In all seriousness though, don't you all get the vibe we're in the same situation as the 17-game Ellsbury-in-Portland cameo from 2006? I normally pump the brakes when people are calling for promotions on April 19 but you're not going to get any caution from me on this one. Moncada is too good for where he's playing.

Random thoughts:
- First, this thread is way more enjoyable than the major league gameday thread
- Second, I get that Salem is stacked and we haven't seen an affiliate with studs like Moncada, Benintendi, Devers et al., in a long time......but.....this Greenville team is super interesting to me. I was cautiously optimistic about them before the season began. For a system thats been light on power as of late, the likes of Chavis, Washington, Ockimmey, and Basabe on the same team is pretty exciting.
- McAvoy is on my radar. Count him and Ben Taylor as two semi-under-the-radar guys to watch

All I can figure is that Moncada puts the fear (of god) into pitchers. Why else would he be sporting a .500+ OBP? They're afraid to throw it near the plate, which probably attests to the fact that the .350+ average is no fluke. Neither he nor Benintendi are long for that league, that's obvious.

Benintendi picked off for the 3rd time today. There's something for him to work on.

Very small minor note - I'm glad to see Tate Matheny have a good start to the year. He was brutally poor last season.

Chief Chavis is on fire 2BB along with the HR Greenville is putting up runs in bunches Chavis now up to .388 / .444 / .633. He's 3rd among prospects in OPS. His Iso went from .057 to .245 in 3 games. I'm really impressed thus far with how well he's playing (even with the huge jump in Iso in the last 3 games). Also, what is the over/under on Moncada's SB's for the year, 85/90? I know they'll go down once he hits Portland, that's why I put 85/90 instead of 110

Oooh, I like it. Given a mid-year promotion I'll say 75. In High A and lower, someone who is fast and good at getting a jump can basically steal at will. At Double-A that isn't necessarily the case, as more pitchers can hold runners and catcher defense is MUCH better. In fact, Double-A always seems to be littered with those catch-and-throw types who can't hit. Though with Portland he'd have less of a problem of the rest of his lineup hitting so many doubles and triples behind him.

Taylor, Lakins, and McAvoy are all fun to watch/follow and Brakeman should be too. Once Kopech comes back, we'll have a lot of arms to watch other than just Espinoza and the AAA lefties.

OK Red Sox, BA's in, we have a quorum: Yoan Moncada, 2b, Red Sox. Moncada is the No. 3 prospect in the game—with a bullet. With Corey Seager and Byron Buxton in the bigs, there’s no question who the best player remaining in the minors is. With less than 400 at-bats as a pro, Moncada is pushing for a promotion to Double-A, such is his domination of high Class A so far. On Tuesday, he reached base four times and stole two bases. He now has 12 steals in 11 games and is slashing 359/.480/.538.Read more at www.baseballamerica.com/minors/baseball-america-prospect-report-2/#wb3eQ8BgxtLdBiAo.99Note, this was before his 5 on base game...

Benintendi picked off for the 3rd time today. There's something for him to work on. The pickoff today was by a righty and the move wasn't all that great. Minor league games rarely catch multiple angles so I'm guessing he needs to hone his pitcher reading skills. Only one of Moncada's caught stealings was actually a pickoff.

He's probably in his own head after being picked off twice the other day. I'm sure he'll figure it out.

Yeah, I'm curious if this "Cuban God of Walks" thing stems from an unbelievable batting eye or if he's just seeing junk because the pitchers are afraid of him.

-Evan Phillips intentionally walks Mitchell Gunsolus. -Yoan Moncada hit by pitch. Danny Mars scores. Bryan Hudson to 3rd. Mitchell Gunsolus to 2nd. Hey, I know it's the minor leagues and stuff, and you aren't always using a "playing to win" strategy and instead are trying to get your players to work on different things. But walking a player intentionally to load the bases is probably always a bad idea. Walking the number nine hitter to get to the best hitter in the circuit is... I mean, what is the manager trying to get Phillips to work on here? "Hey kid, here's where you practice having no margin of error against a batter who is much more advanced than you are and should probably be in Triple-A and is the size of a Mack truck and the bases are loaded and the game is tied." "Son, when you get the major leagues, sometimes your manager is gonna suck and do stupid things. You'll have to learn how to work around that without being an ass. So walk this guy to load the bases and face that monster in the on-deck circle."
