He is a 6'7" Right Handed Starting Pitcher, 33 yrs old & in the last year of a contract that is paying him $20M with a full no trade clause. It doesn't appear that the Angels will be contenders this year and Keith Law described the Angels' farm system as the worst he's seen in the eight years he's been ranking them. (http://www.overthemonster.com/2016/6/2/11837474/red-sox-trade-targets-rumors-jhoulys-chacin). He has Post Season experience both as a Starter & Reliever. He hasn't had a great year but might be turning it around based on his last 3 starts. Would he be a good addition to the Red Sox Starting Staff? What would it take to get him? Thoughts?

I hear Ryan Howard is available too. He's got that sweet postseason experience and is on pace for 25 home runs. Thoughts?

I honestly think he could throw faster than Jered Weaver.

That 92-y/o veteran who threw out the first pitch on Memorial Day brings more heat than Weaver. Not bad control, either. I bet his salary demands would be reasonable.

Wow, averaging 83 on his fastball now. I think I'd rather piggyback John Farrell and Joe Kelly.

He's been toast for a few years now. Given we have a top tier guy in Price and some good 2-3s in E Rod, Porcello and Wright if we can't fill the 5th spot internally I'd look at the Ervin Santana and Hellickson types.

You could get him for Moncada. You would be selling high on him because in his last 3 games, he is 7 for 10 with 7 doubles and he is unlikely to keep that up. The $20M Weaver is getting is less than the $72M we paid to get Moncada, so you come out ahead there. You could expand the trade to include Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton (he is on their payroll, though not on their roster).

Sorry, first time poster…long-time lurker.
I just wanted to ask: are there two Jered Weaver’s playing for the Angels? Because I can only think of the terrible one-- despite what his last few starts say.
I mean Weaver’s fastball is so slow that he makes Koji look like Randy Fricking Johnson
Weaver’s control is so terrible that he makes Henry Owens look like Clayton Kershaw.
The time Weaver takes between pitches makes Clay Buchholz look like… well… okay Clay Buchholz.
Weaver’s fastball is so slow that according to Einstein’s Theory of Relativity, if Weaver threw his fastball in 1925, it would reach home plate sometime in 2072…in another dimension.
Weaver is so terrible that if the Angels said that we could have Trout for free if we took Weaver as well, I’d literally have to think about it for several seconds.
In short, despite what his last few starts have shown, no f%$^$ way would I want Weaver.

Maybe Steven Wright can teach him the knuckleball?

Claim Carl Crawford off waivers, trade for Ryan Howard and trade for Jered Weaver.

I clicked on this thinking it must be a post from at 2013 that was bumped. Jered Weaver had a nice career for himself and made a lot of money, so good for him. But I wouldn't give him William Cuevas's 40-man spot at this point. He's tall and pitched in the playoffs also applies to Randy Johnson and Glenn Abbott, and I'm certain that at least the former is a better pitcher right now than Weaver.

I always had respect for him when he signed that extension in 2011 w/the Angels. It was the consensus that with his agent (Scott Boras) he would get to FA. Maybe Xander does the same thing.

I mean, he has 143 wins and a 36.3 career bWAR. That's not a Hall of Famer or anything, but if Anderson Espinoza goes on to have that career I'd be pretty happy. And if any other pitcher in the system has that career I'd be ecstatic. He's just not good anymore. That's okay - every pitcher eventually ends up being not going anymore. But he's not good anymore and the Red Sox shouldn't trade for him.
