Also, in Bowie, Keith Couch squares off against old friend Jason Garcia, who is apparently starting in AA now (2-6, 5.50 ERA). 29BB/26K in 54 innings.

I love Anderson Espinoza day. Christmas comes once every five days for every Sox fan that follows him.

Ken Rosenthal @ken_Rosenthal 4 min Note on Cody Decker, whom #RedSox signed to minor-league deal. Team plans to use him at multiple positions, including C. Has been mostly 1B.

Looks like MiLB has finally updated their PawSox starter fro Elias to Owens. So I'll roll with that. Another starter to watch tonight. We'll see if he can use last week as the foundation for some more consistency and more strikes.

We'll see if he can use last week as the foundation for some more consistency and more strikes. And we'll likely either see a bullpen start in Pawtucket at some point this weekend, or Couch up and McCarthy off the Portland DL. Depends on how likely it is that Elias stays up, which last I read was no certainty, at least heading into the start. EDIT: Owens/Wilkerson/TBA/Cuevas is the official word.

Speaking of Espinoza, he could possibly exceed his inning total from last year (58.1) in today’s start (currently 53.2 in 2016), with it only being mid-June, it will be interesting to see how the Sox will handle Espinoza the rest of the year. Has anyone heard anything about what the Red Sox plans are regarding limiting his innings, what his cap might be , etc…?

A few people here (with no inside knowledge whatsoever) have guessed between 100-110.

Recall that he started throwing in games in June last year, but he presumably had been throwing in an extended spring training-type environment before that, and those innings still count. In that context, I'd guess 100-120, which he's roughly on pace for (he's thrown 53.2 IP in roughly 2.5 months, and there are roughly 2.5 months left on Greenville's schedule).

Benintendi single to left, single off the 1B glove, fly out to the LCF warning track.

Our DSL hitters must be short with all these walks everyday. We could nickname them The Walking Dead.

It's the 4th straight day both the Sox DSL squads have won.
Owens back to his old self - back to his inability to find the strike zone.
I think I jut fell off the Couch bandwagon. Sorry, Don.

Actually it was worse than the box score; even the outs were hard. I don't have scouting chops of others on this site, but I can add a couple observations. Benintendi hit the ball very sharply in two of his at bats. In his first at bat he pulled one into right for a single and his third at bat he worked the count full, fouled off a couple and drilled one to the deepest part of the park. He also made a nice play ranging far to his right to prevent a double. He did misplay a ground single, but recovered in time to keep the runner on first. Wendell Rijo had a tough night. He struck out twice and really seemed overmatched on breaking balls. He also struggled with the transfer twice. I felt bad for him. He looked so serious throughout the game until the eighth. During a long at bat with a number of fouls by Lin, he started distributing the balls to kids in the stands, and he couldn't keep from smiling. I couldn't help thinking it must be tough to be 20 years old, 2000 miles from home, and struggling against players most of whom are four or five years older than him. I found myself really rooting for him.

And remember that the minor league season ends in the first week in September, so it's a month shorter than MLB's season. We're at the halfway mark, even though it's "only" mid-June. I'd say he's right on pace.
