It would be helpful if you clarified the factual basis for the above claims. Did you watch his games or can you cite to scouting reports or articles to support the propositions that (a) he is throwing many more secondary pitches this year than last year and (b) that this is the reason for his struggles? Or is it just a hypothesis based pretty much entirely on your intuition? He's thrown a ton of wild pitches. I think that if he'd been getting them on FBs, we'd have heard about it. He's walking more guys, and again, if his FB command were suffering, I think we would have heard about it. So it's an inference from a combination of an a priori belief that he would be doing what I described, and data that supports it. That, sir, is thin "evidence." 6 WP's vs. 3, in roughly the same innings as last year. 6 is now "a ton"? 5 more walks this year.

Does anyone know if what happened with the Spinners game? I sat in traffic for over an hour in the last mile before the stadium

Just came from Lowell. Kopech really has the swagger of an ace, and I'm so pleased I had the opportunity to see him pitch. If you believe the radar gun at LeLacheur Park (I don't), he hit 101 in the first inning, but never touched that again. For the rest of the outing he was mostly 91-95, occasionally touching 97. He was also clearly working on his secondary pitches, with mixed results. He threw a lot of pitches in 4+ innings, walked four, gave up four hits, no runs. His tempo really slowed with men on base, which made for a very slow-moving game. Overall, pretty good, and I fully expect to see him pitching in Boston in a couple of years. Yoan Aybar can really fly. If anyone knows how Jagger Rusconi got his name, I'd like to hear the story. Thanks. I actually spent a couple of innings talking with Jagger's parents at a GCL game. I asked them about his unusual name......and you probably guessed it......they love the Stones and Mick Jagger. I'm forever grateful to my parents they didn't do that to me. Can you see yourself named Meatloaf because they liked his music?

Does anyone know if what happened with the Spinners game? I sat in traffic for over an hour in the last mile before the stadium Spinners won, 1-0. The lone run was scored in the bottom of the fifth; unfortunately for Kopech, he was pulled during the top of the fifth so he did not qualify for the win (see my brief note above about his performance). The game took 2 hours 49 minutes, and this was following a 30-minute delay for the pre-game/opening night ceremony to honor 20 years of the Spinners in Lowell, and to say goodbye to outgoing owner Drew Weber.

I'm at Winston-Salem to see Salem. No Moncada again. Might not be much to report; these guys have been seen a lot. Quiet first inning. Did you notice Beeks' delivery? I thought the leg kick was reduced from the ST video, but I wasn't sure my memory was reliable. Seemed compact and efficient. I actually saw him last year for Greenville, but he was not very memorable, except they had a gun and he hit 95 that day. Same mixed results. During the game I reread his profile on this site, and kept thinking that he might indeed show up in a major league bullpen some day. He's 5'11" of course.

Final comment on Salem game: Sox stole 5 bases, including Dubon's 23rd, but opposing catcher was poor both at handling the ball and at throwing.

Just got back from the Salem game (Winston-Salem). Ball looked very sharp. Got out of a few jams. Good life on FB. Moncada & Longhi dn play. Devers and Dubon looked good.
