Great 10 pitch AB for Benintendi that ends with a double deep to Center that scores both Moncada(single of 2nd base bag) and Dubon(HBP).

Matt Huegel Matt HuegelHenry Owens has not allowed a hit through 2, walked one though and not very efficient. 21 pitches in the second, just 4 fastballs.I mentioned this on the Twitter as well, but I just want to emphasize how disappointing this is. It's been well established by now that he can get Triple-A hitters out with his change and curve, but that major leaguers were able to lay off them and murder his fastball, which he wasn't commanding. He's either going to figure out how to command it or he's going to bounce around Triple-A for the next ten years. Not sure whether the blame belongs to Owens himself or to the coaching staff for not putting enough emphasis on it, but this is bad.

Hopefully dombrowski never gets that desperate.

McAvoy's season sure taking a huge dump. Turley just struck out his 8th batter in 3 innings of work.
Dubon perfect for the night, Buchholz doing his best to make him trade bait.

Dogs won on an 8th inning 3 R HR by Decker.
Top of the lineup was 7/12 with 2 BB, 2 2B & HBP. They scored 7 times.

The tenor of that Portland team changed almost overnight. Benitendi was already finding his Sea(Dog)-legs. The arrival of Moncada and Dubon makes it look like a replay of the high-scoring Salem days.

The addition of Decker is also fairly significant, at least from an AA view. The bottom of the lineup was playing well already, Romanski, Friedman Freiman, Sturgeon all seem to have come on a little better than expected over the past month or so.
At this point, the starters are struggling. The relievers are doing well.

Looks like Darwinzon Hernandez needs to work on his pitch selection.

Looks like Darwinzon Hernandez needs to work on his pitch selection. One might say it needs to evolve...

The Salem game is a great A-ball box score in so many ways ... a nice Ball start, but even more, the SalSox scored 6 runs on 2 hits, with NONE of the runs being earned.

Looks like Darwinzon Hernandez needs to work on his pitch selection. They say it's neither the strongest, nor the most intelligent—but the ones most responsive to change—who advance the quickest.

Ball starting to "get it" at age 22? Three consecutive wins, twice pitching seven innings. Two BB yesterday. ERA now at a respectable 2.29.
