Kimbrel to have surgery; miss 3-6 weeks

Or if you were a Yankees fan you'd continue to insist the Sox made a bad trade, when it's turned out better than any of the pundits expected, and the Sox could trade Kimbrel now for more than they gave up to get him. I think the knee may have been bothering CK for awhile, and they were keeping it quiet. Since June 20 he'd been pitching infrequently and giving up a lot of walks and hits. I am absulotely convinced the knee had been bothering him since April or May. My guess is he has probably been having trouble loosening up and thought it was tight instead of injured. Yeah, same here, larry. The guy has the heart of a lion and just leaves everything on the field. It's amazing and inspiring to watch.

Not a doctor, talking about my own personal experience and that of a couple people I know. Knees can "nag" you for a while and not need surgery. My right knee has been like that since 2000. The physical therapist I was seeing at the time said could tell there was "something" there, but it was very minor and couldn't tell what. 15 years, countless sprints and a lot of jump training later and I've only experienced very little discomfort in it. I've heard from a doctor that if they checked, a large amount of people would have at least a minor meniscus problem and just don't know it because it doesn't bother them or it doesn't bother them enough to get it looked at. Not saying that this was there for a while and that it just started bothering him more during the time it was reported to happen. I am saying that it's more than feasible to be the case.

This is actual trolling, right? I mean, it was widely reported that he injured his knee shagging fly balls two days ago (and the injury is consistent with an acute injury, not wear-and-tear), and literally no actual person thinks the Kimbrel trade has turned out better than expected. Margot now << pundit's view of Margot at time of trade; triple quadruple ditto for Guerra, (and Allen on DL). So yeah, Sox could get more for Kimbrel now than Margot, Guerra and Allen now (and Asuaje). Surprise, all you know-it-all pundits and Yankees fans! Knees don't just pop when shagging balls, typically. There's a soreness and weakness first, if undiagnosed, then an injury. You left out the part about how Kimbrel is having his worst season by far.

Um, maybe not. In nine appearances when he hasn't pitched in three days or more, he's got a 3.15 WHIP (knee has been bothering him and can't get loose?) In his other appearances he has a WHIP of 0.50 (knee feels ok?). We'll see when he comes back. Best wishes to CK!

In all seriousness, was losing Margot for Kimbrel worth it?
Kimbrel has barely been average this year. He certainly can't stop the opposing team if the score is tied or if the Sox are behind.
To me, closers come and go. Kimbrel goes down and more than adequate replacements are found in Ziegler (acquired at a low price) and Uehara. In my opinion, you don't buy a closer, you MAKE a closer. You can either take a failed starter or an above average relief pitcher. I don't think a relief pitcher is worth 4 prospects, let alone an elite prospect like Margot.
Granted, the Sox have mookie and Bradley in the OF, and moncada and beninteni knocking on the big league door. If there were no roster spots open for Margot, trade him. But i think an elite propect like that would have been much better spent on another starting pitcher. Good starters don't come and go.

The stats back up what he says (albeit a tiny sample size): In four save situations this year, Koji has four saves, 4IP 2H 1ER 0BB 7K

OK, Koji, when Kimbrell is back, you are going to pitch the 8th if we're ahead, unless you've pitched 2 days in a row. Got it? So get yourself emotionally ready an inning early.

Maybe the scoreboard operator should alter the score when Kimbrel comes into a game that's tied or they're losing. Change it to read that the Sox are leading by a run in the 9th inning. And they could also alter the inning to read the 9th inning when Koji comes in instead of it being the 8th inning. That should solve those problems - at least at home, anyways.
