I have to say that Devers FRAA this year is fantastic and in gold glove territory. 11.7 in 89 games. Maybe he can be above average long term.
It'll be interesting to see what he looks like physically coming into next year. I could see an Ockimey style transformation at some point.

Has anyone suggested Devers is capable of Gold Glove caliber defense? I just did. He's making a tremendous number of plays at 3B (as evidenced by his ratings at BP and by Clay Davenport). Folks who have been to Salem games (myself included) have reported a bunch of spectacular plays. Scouts love his arm. He's already worked very hard on the range. I should make it clear that I don't see him as a Beltre or Arenado level defender, but there isn't always one of those in the league at any given time, hence I can imagine him being in a GG discussion a couple of times before he retires (e.g., the way Boggs won, and not undeservingly). I think he has a chance to be a +10 guy (with +5 to +15 figures annually).

Also, to add to Eric's numbers (thanks to Speier's daily newsletter), the league average in Salem is .255/.332/.382. Since May 24, as a 19 year old, Devers has hit .346/.385/.522. I also agree that if Devers ends up as an average to above-average 3B his value increases immensely, and yes, its a big 3. What an adjustment after a tough first part to the season.

CV now 5/11, 2B, HR in his last 3 games. They need to call him up by 7/25 or 7/26 to prevent burning his last option. Devers: .186 / .269 / .295 (175 PA / 42 G), through 5/25 .289 / .357 / .421 (42 PA / 11 G)), 5/26 to 6/6 .364 / .402 / .519 (82 PA/ 20 G), starting 6/7 .362 / .397 / .558 (146 PA/34 G) After the 175 PA with a 564 OPS, that's 188 with a 916 (.347 / .388 / .528). His season splits are tasty ... 740 vs. RHP, 769 vs. LHP 703 home, 794 road 749 vs. older pitchers ... that's it. What he's done the last 7 weeks, at his age, in that ballpark, with his potential GG-caliber defense ... it's time to start thinking of a big 3 instead of a top 2. He may only be a year behind Moncada in ETA. Any post calling a prospects season splits "tasty" must be liked

Matt Kent having a good (8-4) season starting for Salem. Since he was an effective reliever last year (7-1)under 2.00 era with Lowell, what caused the development staff to turn him into a starter? Not critical, just wondering' why.

Not critical, just wondering' why. He was used as a piggyback starter rather than as a short reliever last year, so it is not really a change in role. They do that frequently. Masterson was the most prominent example.

I also saw him make one great play for Salem vs Winston-Salem, and think he can be a competent 3b, but GG seems a stretch based on his size and legs. "He's already worked very hard on the range" is what you saw about a person's weak spot--I try to be careful about saying it in letters of recommendation so as not to doom someone.
