Maybe Kelly will get in and put up another dominant outing, continuing his ascension to Wade Davis-hood.

If you correct his BABIP even to just .270 he shoots up to .226/.333/.468. That's a higher OPS than Michael Chavis has for the season.

Hitting 99 once or twice a game isn't important though. If he's sitting 96-97 with it instead of 94-95 because he doesn't need to conserve energy then his fastball overall should play up. Plus he can focus on fastball/slider without worrying about mixing in the curve and changeup to keep hitters off balance later.

Attention DC area people and iakovos, Ball pushed back from Saturday to Monday, so Kopech now on Saturday.
This fits so much better with my schedule too. Phew.

Dubon looks good. Hard hit foul, then triple to wall center, 400ft. Second Dubon AB, deep fly out just short of the first AB. Beni does not have great speed.

Beni has thick forearms, so it doesn't matter if the rest of him is undersized. Yoan has thick arms too.

Binghamton pitcher Josh Zeid is 29yr, has 2yr MLB RP, not good enough to stick at mlb, but good enough to hold Beni, Yoan hitless. But Yoan is up again in 8th

Beni almost made what would have been a great catch, then made an off line throw to 2nd.

PawSox in the bottom of the 13th right now. Shepherd and Martin doing yeoman's work in relief to keep the bullpen from getting taxed.
PawSox are at 24 with Noe up, but the spot comes from a short bench rather than bullpen. Will help to get him back tomorrow though.

Devers, of course, is playing in the same park at almost precisely the same age (23 days younger) as Bogaerts 4 years ago.
Both got off to slow starts (Devers much more so), then were eye-opening. Some comparisons:
Through May 25 (Devers' slump):
.274 / .345 / .433 (174 PA) Xander .186 / .269 / .295 (175 PA) Devers
May 26 to July 21:
.287 / .366 / .491 (192 PA) Xander .346 / .391 / .531 (192 PA) Devers
Through June 2 (end of Xander's slow start)
.263 / .324 / .416 (207 PA) Xander .199 / .274 / .315 (201 PA) Devers
June 3 to July 21:
.306 / .399 / .530 (159 PA) Xander .360 / .411 / .547 (163 PA) Devers
Hottest stretch:
.391 / .506 / .750 (81 PA), June 3 to 24, Xander .397 / .453 / .705 (86 PA), July 1 to 21, Devers
Xander had quite a severe slump from June 25 to July 20, .224 / .288 / .313 in 81 PA. He then hit .413 / .479 / .730 in 73 PA / 16 G to earn a promotion to AA on August 9.
Xander had the better IsoD and Iso, but Devers' higher BA aren't all luck. We'll see what he does over the next three weeks.
