That fence in RF looks like it's 330 feet away and not very tall. It's a bandbox.
Love what he's doing but I'd still keep him in the minors until September. I'd still find a way to get a full 6 years of control out of him.
Ideally, you want a player's best 6 years. I like holding onto players in the minors until they are absolutely ready.
It's great to see more HR pop recently.

It's great to see more HR pop recently. There's very little difference in service time between bringing him up between now and in September. It's impossible for him to accrue enough service time for one year this season. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if the new CBA addresses tampering with players' service time in order to hold them back from free agency.

Is there much left for Benintendi to prove in the minors? He could go to Pawtucket, but is it really necessary? Let's not get too excited over one game here, even if it was spectacular. Benny has been just OK since he got to Portland -- hasn't set the world on fire. At the very, very, very least, let's give him some time to see if he can build on today's breakout game and get on a good hot streak before bringing him to the majors. And while we're at it, give him a few more games in LF if the organization is seriously considering bringing him up at some point. Sometimes I write a post and forget to hit "Create Post" and come back a while later and, oops, damn!, hit it hours later. I'm going to cut you some slack and figure you wrote this ... on June 10th (when he went 3/5, 2B, HR). In his first 19 G and 79 PA in AA, Benny hit .203 / .241 / .270. Based on some things he said, the feeling is that it took him a while to get used to pitchers starting him off with breaking stuff, and throwing breaking stuff when behind in the count. Since then (June 8th), he has played 44 G and had 184 PA, and has hit .337 / .408 / .626. And yes, his overall line of .295 / .357 / .515 is better than just OK, but what he's done since he figured out how he was being pitched to translates to a guy who is more than ready.

After struggling in his first 47 AB's in May (.513 OPS), he has OPS's .886 (105 AB's) in June and 1.042 (85 AB's) in July (and I don't think that included today's 4-5 work). He's been very good for 2 months, far more than just ok. Yeah, I think you're being misled by the 5 or so recent games where he wasn't killing the ball. That's really been his only stretch in all of July where he wasn't absolutely outstanding. He's very steadily improved in AA. After tonight's game, he's slugging over .500 again. He's also basically reversed his BB:K rates from when he was first promoted.

Benintendi splits by month in Double-A:
May: .531 OPS (3/10 BB/K) June: .886 OPS (10/12 BB/K) July: 1.042 OPS (11/8 BB/K)
He's going to be ready very soon.

That stuff is very revealing. He's adjusted quickly. Dombrowski mentioned that he didn't have any qualms about promoting a player if the staff thought he was there. I'd be surprised if he's not in Boston sometime this month to see how he fits.

I'd be surprised if he's not in Boston sometime this month to see how he fits. I agree, particularly in light of the fact that at worst, he'd be a significant upgrade in LF. I've got the over/under at Aug 12th. It should also be noted that he hasn't struck out over his last 7 games.

Have to bring Benny up. I anticipate disappointing hitting; it is a big, fast jump. But just having a decent fielder, some speed, energy... leftfield has been brutal all year. Edit: and I mean disappointing initially, not longterm. I don't expect miracles. The line up and the LF position that produced 2 K's withe bases loaded last night? Sure throw him in in a pennant race. Sure there have been mis haps at the LF position. But you never know what you will get from a guy draft 13 months ago. Despite what he has done at the minor league level.

If he had enough PAs to qualify, he'd be 3rd in the league in OPS.
Dylan Cozens (RF) .945 Rhys Hoskins (1B) .930 Benny .872
