any word on whether Groome will pitch in one of the games? It would seem that Pennington deserves the start, would he be put in from the pen in a high leverage situation?

Ritzi puttin' it to the DSL Rangers so far -
5 innings, 3 hits, 1 unearned run, 1BB, 6K's. Sox lead 4-1. 12 outs from DSL glory.
ADD: Game delayed (rain) with 1 out in the top of the 8th, Sox at bat and still leading 4-1. 6 outs to go.

After a long delay, DSL Champioship game #4 is suspended with the Sox leading 4-1 with one out in the top half (DSL Sox at bat) of the 8th.

They skipped Pennington in the last week, so my guess is he gets game 1 on 7 days' rest. 2 and 3 would probably be Groome and Shawaryn in some order (both pitched on Friday, the 2nd). Hernandez would be the next starter after them in the next round (either game 1 or 2).

Ritzi is old for the league but those numbers are tremendous. Do you think he'll start next season at Greenville? Xander Bogaerts and 100-mph throwing, 22-year-old Victor Diaz are the only guys who've done that recently. It's super duper rare and means it's either a special case like Diaz or a special player like Bogaerts, and Bogaerts basically had to tear up extended and force his way up to get them to change the plan of sending him to Lowell. Frankly, Mendoza doesn't even look like a candidate for Lowell, and barely one for the GCL. 48 strikeouts in 68 1/3 innings in your fourth season in the DSL at age 20 looks more like a candidate to be cut than to even come stateside. It's like a college sophomore having a good season pitching in summer Legion ball.

Average Sally League pitcher is 21.6 years of age. Would make sense...........Edit, It may actually be closer to 20 as I could not find any "recent" hard facts on this. The 21.6 was from 2011. A lot hinged on College/HS/Int'l signees.
