Overall, the numbers are strong. He's been productive with a .298/.357/.443/.800 line, 18 homers, 81 RBIs and 29 doubles. But he has been in a rut for more than 65 games. And that should be a concern. He had a .351/.401/.510/.911 line on June 23. Bogaerts posted a .386/.442/.586/1.027 line with two outs and runners in scoring position in 2015. This year, the shortstop has a .200/.294/.350/.644 line in that situation www.masslive.com/redsox/index.ssf/2016/09/xander_bogaerts_boston_red_sox_6.html

In the spirit of "there's a silver lining to everything", maybe now we'll be able to afford to sign him this offseason.

Bogaerts is a perfect example of that. The same is basically true of his overall numbers. Don't freak out over cold/hot streaks. I mean, do we really need a thread for this? Does anyone think we should bench Xander in favor of....

At the near exact time Xander went cold Hanley Ramirez went hot.

Should I start a new thread where he's hitting 1.000/1.000/1.000 with 2 outs and RISP starting with his last at bat?

I hate threads like this one.
Xander wasn't going to hit .350 all year.

Honestly, this just reinforces how good he is. He's hitting .300 after slumping for about half the year.

I hate threads like this one. Xander wasn't going to hit .350 all year. I have to admit - when he was hitting .359 in June, I wasn't too convinced that he wouldn't hit .350 all year. He was making it look so easy. I honestly think this guy needed a few days off at some point to recharge his batteries, and he hasn't been able to get it and I think it's affecting him big-time. Kind of like a pitcher who's thrown way more pitches and innings than he's used to and has hit the wall.

The injuries caused him to play more than they likely wanted to, but he's always going to play a lot. IIRC Boston skipped a start or 2 of Lackey's in the stretch run of 2013 for a similar reason, and it seemed to help him last through the playoffs. They can't really afford to do the same with Xander right now though.
