Someone tell the kid never to do that again. He now has more career sacrifice hits than Mike Trout and as many as Albert Pujols. David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez each had two in their careers.

Off topic, sort of, but Manny Margot is starting for the Padres tonight in CF and batting Second. Of course I'm going to stay late and watch him and cry silently. Not to worry. CK will read you a bedtime story in about 10 minutes. The book is entitled, "Your OK and I (K)"

Nice play by Shaw, fielding then getting up in one smooth motion.

You realize of course that you are being entirely unfair to a young man who hasn't been up all that long and who we have no reason to expect would compile a career anything like what has been/is being compiled by the esteemed gentlemen you listed. Young kid, tough LH, why not move the runner over and try to steal another run, if you think the odds are against him being equally or more productive by swinging away? I really don't think "never bunt" makes any more sense as a strategy than "bunt in any halfway logical situation." Besides, are we sure Benny did it on his own? Maybe it was called.

Great win!
If they do this right they can clinch in Yankee Stadium. Beyond sweet if that happens.

That's the 5th time in a row they score exactly 5 runs.

That's the 5th time in a row they score exactly 5 runs. If they keep doing that they'll end up 5 runs short of scoring 900 for the year. Gotta pick up the pace just a tad, fellas. When Teddy Ballgame hit .388 in 1957 (when I first became a Sox fan, by the way), he was 5 hits short of batting .400.

Uehara might be my favorite Sox pitcher ever. Every pitch he throws is a strike. That puts tremendous pressure on the batter. There is no waiting around. No working the count. The ball is coming and it's a strike.

I'm not sure he did it on his own, and I do not think it's always a bad strategy. But I honestly hope he never bunts again in his career because it means that AB has developed into an elite player with the bat. If Benintendi is bunting a lot going forward, it means he is not one of the top batters in the lineup.

They were also losing 5-2 against the Yankees in that thursday, which is the 5th day of the week in the Judeo-Christian liturgical calendar. That game happened in September 1 5 and it was won with the team scoring 5 runs in the last inning, with the big highlight of course being a HR by the 5th hitter in the order. Oh, and they are 5.5 games ahead of the Jays, whose elimination number is currently 5. And...

We should just do a bullpen game tomorrow, let Pomeranz skip a turn, then see if he still has gas in one of the games against mfy, oh yeah, we should root for them when they play BJ. Or have Pom pitch just 1 inning to get use to RP.

The lesson that could be learned from him. I've lived through Longborg, Tiant, and Pedro. All better than Uehara, but I just love a guy who throws nothing but strikes.
