So, I decided to make a catch-all thread for ex-Sox players around the league. I thought it was a little more specific than the general minor league thread, especially for news about retiring players getting jobs in coaching or scouting or front offices, or guys who made the majors, stuff like that. Let's try not to rehash specific moves and trades here too deeply. Like the occasional "I can't believe they let Justin Haley get away" is cool, but an entire re-hashing of the Kimbrel-Margot trade is not what I have in mind. I got the idea checking the Norfolk-Charlotte box score. Probably you all saw that Moncada had three hits, two runs, a walk, and a steal, but old buddy Jose Vinicio got the start (at DH!) and had three hits including a triple in the same game. And the losing pitcher for Norfolk was Zach Stewart, who is still somehow only 30. Makes sense to me. May I suggest Mr Dunne no warnings just start revoking memberships. I think fines would get the attention. Discipline is the key to getting u point across. Again just a friendly suggestion.

Heh, not sure why this popped up for you, but this is actually the post from when I created the thread seven years back. People have done a really good job in this thread over the years sticking to the topic and not getting too far off track. As far as the board in general, we appreciate the feedback. We do try very hard not to ban anyone. Most folks either figure out the rhythm of the forum or finds a different place if they can't, but obviously a few times a year we have to make an exception.

I doubt there has been. There has always been AAA churn.

Can Churn be a new stat? Maybe like something to rate the different minor league levels or something....
like: "the Sea Dogs led the AA Eastern League last year with a 1.0465 CHURN+ , but this year it looks like the Yard Goats are slated to take over the CHURN lead especially adjusting for park factors..."
I think Eric should look into this.

Nobody would ever beat the Duquette-era Red Sox in CHURN. Absolutely incredible combination of strong talent evaluation and giving up on dudes after two weeks.

Maybe not ideal relative to his perfect-world projection, but he's always profiled better in the role.

Apropos of nothing: I just walked past the beach house of Wayne Gomes, 2002 Red Sox pitcher, in Virginia.

Benny and Verdugo in a race to see who can be out of baseball faster. Five singles combined this year.

He was a pretty good player who looked like he could get even better and instead… all ip in smoke.

I mean...he just signed the first big contract of his career, he is financially set...and from what I've read WhiteSox club house wasn't exactly a happy place.
Big money in the bank, no matter what you do + boderline toxic workplace that you can't leave, no matter what you do...not exactly an environment to thrive and play your heart out

He was a pretty good player who looked like he could get even better and instead… all ip in smoke. In one of his baseball abstracts, Bill James said the average age for players reaching that cliff was 32, which was a lot younger that I thought it would be because of all the exceptional stars that played so much longer.

It's stuff like this that makes everyone think they could be the gm of a mlb team. Turns out Winckowski and Gambrell might be a pretty good return after all.

Benintendi's still only 29 though. He fell off one cliff at like 24 and the next one at 28. Without injuries involved, that's always surprising.
