Tzu-Wei Lin getting the start in center field tonight. He'd been talked about as a utility player, but had only seen time in the infield so far this year. It almost goes without saying, but he just doesn't profile as a starter anywhere so the more positions that he can play the better.

Devers just grounded to 2B. He had 6 consecutive hits prior to that.

Lin just extended his streak with a double to right field (off the wall). It kind of surprised me because it didn't look like he hit it that hard. Sort of a slow line drive that carried far if there is such a thing.

3-1 Dogs. Not sure what inning but McAvoy likely done. I didn't see the first inning when they hit the HR but I didn't see anything hit hard against him. Lots of swing and misses but not overpowering, more a case of a good pitch mix, the batters looked off balance. Always pitches from the set, even if no runners are on base.
My first look at Tobias, he looks like he's in the best physical condition on the team.
I haven't seen anything difficult but Lin looks comfy in CF.

Callahan with a perfect inning and punchout.
His season line: 10 innings, 6 hits, 1 ER, 0 BB, 16 Ks

Henry Owens with the Henry Owens-est line possible: 5 innings, 1 hit, 0 runs, 6 walks, 7 Ks. 96 pitches to get through 5.

What's a reasonable timeline for Callahan's promotion to AAA? The issue has always been lack of control - home plate remains unchanged between levels

Time to promote Josh Ockimey. He went deep again tonight. He's batting .347 on the season. Big time Power Hitter. Ockimey and Devers look like our two best bats in the system. I think Devers has 30-40 HR potential in the majors, while Ockimey has 30 HR potential in the majors.

Longhi has a new approach and it will take him a while to get used to it.

Expectations beyond that set us up for disappointment.

Are we really talking about promoting guys after <100PAs at a level right now?

I'm a fan and think he'll be stronger and adjust better this year, but way too early. WAY too early.

Are we really talking about promoting guys after <100PAs at a level right now? We're talking about promoting guys because you can learn control at any level because the plate is the same size, so why not?

Last season wasn't much better. Of course if he strikes out and hits like Davis for the Os, I can live with that.

Of course if he strikes out and hits like Davis for the Os, I can live with that. 24% strikeout rate if you use plate appearances (and you should), which isn't really all that bad. It's not great, but it's not Dalbec with his 36% rate, for example. I wouldn't call Ockimey's rate "disturbing" by any stretch. Instead I'd say "a bit higher than you'd like." Anyway, the point stands that's already been made - you don't promote a guy based on 100 plate appearances at a level.
