When announcer says "Barnes doesn't have it today," I go to game logs to find the implied days he does have it. Not easy to find.

This is really, really embarrassing. They're giving you an out and you can't throw a strike. What a pathetic attempt at pitching by Barnes.

This looks like the worst kind of getaway day pitching.

You have to bring in Kimbrel here. Doesn't matter if you don't bring him back in the 9th. The game is won or lost here.

This is when you need to bring in Kimbrel. Good for Farrell for recognizing it.

That Marrero AB is gonna come back and hurt them. Shocker. He's so bad offensively, he should only be held for late game defensive situations where he can't get an AB.

Just a reminder that Matt Barnes walked Eduardo Escobar and Chris Gimenez up 2 runs.

What's wrong with JBJ that he couldn't PH for Marrero? He's a much better hitter, even when he's OPS'ing .500.

Nice job by Leon pushing striking one out of a strike zone for a ball. That's not important.

No doubt 3b is the biggest issue on this team and the Red Sox have to hope and pray that Devers can jump to the majors by August and then be reasonably productive once he's here.
But like I've said before the bullpen outside of Kimbrel will cause a lot of issues as the season goes on. Barnes has better stuff than results and Kelly is the same thing. Outside of Kimbrel there's nobody that's trustworthy. They need what Carson Smith was in 2015 and/or what Tyler Thornburg was in 2016. They need one of those guys to get healthy and pitch like they did before their injuries. I don't feel too good about that happening but that's what they need. If not a bunch of winnable games will find their way into the loss column.

The Barnes harters are incorrigible. There have been very good performances previously. What he lacks is consistency. Maybe he'll never be that, but he has been good at times.

Shut up Mauer! You are just mad that you lost your talent 5 years too early. Maybe even more than that.

At the risk of jinxing this, Kimbrel has been money this season.

The Barnes harters are incorrigible. There have been very good performances previously. What he lacks is consistency. Maybe he'll never be that, but he has been good at times. But that's the whole point. If he's going to be inconsistent then he shouldn't be pitching high leverage. Let him pitch the 6th or 7th inning. They need somebody who can be consistent (not perfect, but consistent) in high leverage situations. Farrell managed the situation well today, but if the Sox need to keep relying on Kimbrel for 5 out saves they're going to be in trouble as the season wears on. They definitely need somebody to assert themselves in the 8th inning (or key out in the 7th). Hope it's Thornburg at some point reasonably soon. I have very little faith in Barnes, Hembree, or Kelly. Kelly is the guy who should be able to be that guy, but he is no unreliable.

I wouldn't even say Farrell managed this game well.
He's so set on roles for bullpens. He has to have guys set in the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings.
He should of brought out Hembree to start the 8th inning after cruising in the 7th or he should of had Kimbrel start the 8th after not pitching a while with a off day tomorrow.
Farrell just got by enough without managing to blow this game imo. That and the fact that he's got one of the best relievers in baseball helped saved his butt.
