And yet, a moderator will chastise a new member in open forum: jmei Global Moderator ***** Senior Moderator jmei Avatar Posts: 12,281Male 2018 Red Sox roster building Dec 23, 2017 at 7:25pm via mobile Quote like Post Options Post by jmei on Dec 23, 2017 at 7:25pm All but two or three of your posts on these forums have included, as a central element, strongly-worded criticism of the front office. That viewpoint is certainly fine (I share it to an extent), but it has the effect of turning every thread you post in into a referendum on the front office, which derails other topics of conversation. If you want to discuss the front office, please feel free to start a new thread on that topic. I refer you to the forum ground rules on staying on topic and not baiting other members into arguments. Read more: forum.soxprospects.com/thread/4239/2018-red-sox-roster-building?page=59#ixzz52NlxXPOzAnd when another member questions the use of such heavy-handedness, that member's post is deleted. No further discussion, just censorship. Is this the type of forum you want? Rigid guidelines, autocratically enforced? I thought jmei was right in doing so. IMO there is no reason why said poster you are referring couldn't start another thread. It gets tiring and boring when said poster you are referring keeps bashing DD on every thread while DD wasn't the subject. I disliked Farrell's managing style immensely and brought it up a few times - so I get it - but this guy nearly every post bashed DD and the bashing didn't appear to be separated in much time . Sorry-- but after a while it's not fun. It becomes monotonous - when all the guy has to do is just start a new thread and that would be fine. If every thread were a DD bashing thread or a Farrell bashing thread etc I'd move on. Wouldn't you? You wouldn't get tired of over-and-over-and-over-and-over-and-over-and-over-and-over? Agreed, and if it isn't done, then it will be attempted to be squashed by members through trolling, anger and bitterness, leaving the forum a battlefield. We don't need that. This place is way above the level of talk radio that a lot of the internet seems to be at. There are plenty of other places to rant like the most miserable bitter Red Sox fan that exists.

Adding to that, I visit a few carefully selected sites like this to avoid the morass of strident negativity and/or stupidity found in places I no longer visit. The poster Ben referred to was not by any means stupid and seems to be a student of the game but, to be honest, his repetitive attacks were turning me off. Most everyone on this site appreciates, on many levels, the pros and cons of his points the first or second time around. Jmei's suggestion to start a new thread was a good one, if a bit surprising in tone. I always appreciate jmei's input, and would also appreciate this new poster's contributions, but under the guidelines stated.

Hello all, I've been following soxprospects and the forum for a few years, and decided to finally join. So...hello! Bravo and welcome aboard, and just in time as we approach the end of Hot Stove with not much remains to accomplish, and the start of ST virtually next month. Boy, does that feel good to say out loud.

Hello everyone. Inspired byBogey2short, I too have joined Soxprospects. First thing, I want to thank you all for hosting a wonderful website. I learn more about the baby Sox here than any place else. The analyses are excellent...usually... and the atmosphere is civil...usually. I look forward to reading, and writing, more in the future.

Greetings. I’m not brand new to site but haven’t been very active on the forums. I’ve followed the team for many years and fondly remember when the Gold Dust Twins broke in to the majors. I hope to have some worthy contributions here.

Big fan of the site and have been following for years ever since I had season tickets to the Seadogs when their lineup included Masterson, Aaron Bates, Bubba Bell and Iggy! However, I believe some of the posts in the last month within Theads are getting very off topic and too much hate and bitterness. When I come to this site to read, I want facts, Spring Training reviews, first hand player assessments, etc. Some people post way too much whiny bull****. To all you moderators and very detailed posters, thank you for your years of commitment. My Username used to be Bates1343 but I changed it after Aaron Bates left the Org.

Started posting last week. I was in an accident 4 months ago and I my memory and few other brain functions. When they handed me my phone I found Sox Prospects in it. My family tells me I knew the Sox minor league system from the Dominican to Portland. This was because of Sox Prospects. When I got home I went through some of the things in the closet. One thing was a box of Sox cards and tickets of games I had been to. I may not have my memory but there is a fire for the Boston Red Sox.Even after being scolded by the Sox Prospects Veterans I will continue with my daily therapy of reading Sox Prospects morning noon and night.. Thank you for all your hard work

No need to apologise. I built a bridge and I'm over it I suspect there's nobody on this board, or maybe in Red Sox Nation, who deserves more Best Wishes for the New Year! I hope we hear more from you.

Hi folks,
First post under a new name. Had an account years ago and couldn't ever figure it out when I wanted to start posting again. So I created a new one. I'm a lurker mainly, but follow this page passionately and supported the fundraising drive.

My name is Toby and I have been following SP since around 2004/5. Been a complete Boston sports fan my whole life and that started around 1971 so I have seen the good the bad and the glorious last 16 years. Was fortunate enough to be at games 3 and 4 in St Louis when the Sox ended the curse, certainly a highlight in life. Didn't quite make it on to the field though I do remember getting hundreds of Sox fans to sing love that dirty water.
I too was a lurker for a long time and was somewhat dismissed on my first attempts at posting. It caused me to go back to just reading but then I started up again and haven't looked back. You will find me making statements and comments but I don't bother arguing points much, not worth the effort. It seems like some here live to argue. Overall I love the site though. It might not be perfect but in comparison to other sites it is the gold standard, as someone else said. You guys do a great job as mods and contributors, although condescending at times. Can't really blame you as there are some crazy thoughts put out at times. The knowledge of many hear can be intimidating. I too have had some serious health and life issues over the years and have found SP to be a great get away from the reality of life, so a special thank you for that.

This is pretty much my thoughts as well.
Great site, lot's of experienced posters, useful information, Ive learned much here, many opinions, I do think some are a bit lost on the fact that people can have a difference of opinion in baseball, and life in general, and a few know it all's as well...
Keep up the good work!

Fully support the welcoming approach Mike. As a fellow website owner and developer I can pass on that it is not uncommon for website traffic to be downward trending even for several years now. The internet is now a more stable environment with the larger sites solidifying more Traffic due in part to algorithmic changes and ad budgets ( Amazon, Facebook etc...) and individual websites becoming less important to monetization efforts and community building. The focus going forward probably on should be more on soxprospects Facebook groups, Facebook live, Twitter and all the work you folks already are doing in other efforts such as conventional media and teaming with other sports websites like baseball prospectus, mlbtraderumors...etc. A little known secret is that it is not the website as much any more....it's the brand. I.E soxprospects as a brand. Across the many distribution channels as you are doing. If anything, you are more hip to this than I.
Your site ( I like to think of it as OUR site ! ) has some extraordinary baseball gurus in it that is tangible value which can be extended across all channels. And any work you can do to continue to show appreciation for all members is really a key. Sometimes the gurus and their harum just go into "my way or the highway" mode and it gets ugly, as with any forum. In some ways the moderators are taking care of customers just as a conventional ecommerce website does if it wants customers to come back. The little things mean so much and just being friendly and welcoming is so important. It's not good when 4-5 people get together and essentially call someone a moron and the collective wisdom of 4-5 people can sometimes be very wrong. We all respect each of the leaders and sometimes that respect borders on blind obsequiousness to the exalted ones. Ergo some heated discussions involving those who differ in opinions sometimes at all. No one really knows who is right sometimes until the season is over, and even then players get hurt and random chance happens. We all would be well served to remember. It's just a freaking baseball blog. We all should lighten up and have fun with it, and 95% of the time that is what takes place. I would remind us of that almost daily. It's a baseball blog. We are here to have fun and relax.
I don't come here much any more as I am just too busy but if I were you I would have some people focused mainly on developing the viralocity of soxprospect facebook and twitter posts. More on that and less on the podcasts maybe. For example that youtube of the Yankee fan after Devers clocked that 103 mph pitch out of Yankee stadium was just hilarious and more things like that could be used to generate new visitors and give people a reason to come back for more. And every such post should be branded with links back to soxprospects. Share them on the other sports websites, with lists of sports twitter feeds, with a database of sports writers, in other sports facebook groups..etc.

long time follower, and I believe I had a one post career. The moonlight Graham of posters. Grew up and still reside in Massachusetts. Went to my first game with my dad in 1979. Was an enormous George Brett fan growing up. Wore GB5 cleats down the aisle of my first communion to my mother's horror and my fathers approval. Switched to Sox when I was about 10 or 11 and have been locked ever since. Took my oldest to his first game in 2007. Sox season ticket holder for years, but dont get to a ton of games as three kids makes it difficult.
My favorite live Sox game memories are being at Fenway when Tony Perez hit I believe three home runs in a game for Sox and struck out in his last at bat and myself as a little kid, yapped at him for not hitting a fourth. He game me his batting gloves.
Got into Royals clubhouse on May 15, GB's birthday with a blue and White cake from Montillio's during a rain delay at a game at Fenway. He was phenomenally nice, met Willie Wilson, Frank White and Amos Otis.
Saw Oil Can clinch vs Toronto in 86. Went to all Game svs Angels in 86 and one World series game vs Mets.
Went to spring training the following year and got my picture with Ted Williams, who was insanely generous with his time. The picture adorns the wall at my office.
Sox minor league game threads are my first visit in the morning. love the recap and the work put in by the members. Have some random favorite prospects. Like to follow Williams Jerez and my all time favorite sox prospect was Frankie Rodriquez.
Follow the sox closely, but have been hesitant to post here, because I am not all that familiar with the uses of WAR, UZR, OPS+ and the new statistical analysis of baseball.

Good afternoon everyone, happy Friday! I’m posting in the hopes of bringing on a new wave of members to post to the Forum and to encourage the existing members to post more. We’re really striving to set an environment where visitors shouldn’t be afraid to post here for fear that their opinions aren’t in line with conventional wisdom, or that their prospect knowledge isn’t yet up to par with readers that have been following the site for a dozen years. Please join the forum and post away! Don’t be shy! (Side note: we’ll continue to aim to make sure that the board doesn’t devolve into an un-moderated disaster). I’d like to set two goals. First, I hope we can sign up 100 new members between now and the draft (June 12). Second, I hope to see 5,000 member posts between May 13 and the draft. For some background, we are at roughly 2,100 members, but only about 450 have posted this calendar year. Over the last 30 days, there have been about 3,820 posts. These numbers are down from previous years, which we somewhat expected due to some prospect graduations and trades. That said, there are still a lot of exciting topics to talk about, so feel free to start a new thread on any relevant topic. Many of the top 20 prospects don’t have their own threads yet. Also, if you feel that there are ways that we can improve the Forum, please feel free to post in this thread or PM me, Chris Hatfield, or one of the moderators directly. We are always looking for ways to improve, albeit with somewhat limited resources. Thanks for reading! Mike Since joining I've enjoyed all of the discussions on this forum and the variety others are that are offered. The SoxProsprcts scouting reports on current draftees and International signings keep me up on all the current prospects in the system.Thank you for all your hard work.
