Nice performance from Brian Johnson today. Isn't it totally obvious by now, that Johnson is our best bet for giving us, at least, an OK start? There is no reason to go thru Owens control or Kendricks lack of swing and miss. BJ needs more than one start and back to Pawtucket. That is all they ever give him. The kid is a quick study. Let him get comfortable and give him a couple of starts. Price needs to get back into rhythm before bringing him up. Give David 2 more AAA starts, and then bring him up. Don't hurry him. GIVE BRIAN JOHNSTON 2 STARTS...and let him get comfortable.

Part of the answer is the ability to help for the duration of the year. Johnson can whereas Velazquez can't with the innings thrown coming into the year. Also, Johnson has a longer track record in the system and being given only 1 start doesn't seem to provide an accurate assessment of what they have. Lastly, we like Brian more.

I believe BJ has had this happen over a couple of years. Not once. It is time to finally give a real shot! He was, before, the injuries, etc. a solid prospect who has fought his way up to AAA. And last, I believe in him a lot more than the fodder that has been paraded in Fenway this year.

Austin Maddox to Pawtucket, Yankory Pimentel to Portland What kind of stuff does Maddox have? I do not remember having seen him pitch live, but the video makes it look like he has some late movement on a nice looking fastball.

Michael Chavis started showing some opposite field power. Really impressive.

The kid is unstoppable. Two consecutive HRs.

Trenton Kemp is off to a great start. The k rate has improved and it's nice to see him running more...4/5 in SB attempts despite the missed time. Loved that pick,'remember reading he ran a 6.4 60 and with his wiry, athletic build I thought he could potentially develop into 25 he, 30-35'steal type if he developed.

Something of a turnaround despite a jump in grade. Is he sprinkling duende on his pancakes? (apologies to the late Wil McDonough).

The kid is unstoppable. Two consecutive HRs. 10 total bases tonight, slugging .719!!! And it's IN SALEM! I know Salem's overall XBH totals aren't depressed, but it's a brutal park for HR. Haven't looked up his home/away splits yet, but he is absolutely killing it this year. He's got real in-game power right now, and he's made huge strides in his BB-K ratio.

Haven't looked up his home/away splits yet, but he is absolutely killing it this year. He's got real in-game power right now, and he's made huge strides in his BB-K ratio. 9 of his 10 home runs have been in Salem. However, I think that's a bit noisier than you'd think at this point of the year given that he's got a 3-HR and a 2-HR game there. He's also had 20 home games and 13 road games. But that said, it's impressive. Salem's a 40 for home runs on BA's new ballpark factors, although it otherwise plays as a hitter's park - the dimensions are deep but part of the HR issue is high fences. That's why, say, the fact that Kemp has no HR yet but has 10 XBH and a .220 ISOp makes sense. This is kind of crazy though. Led by Chavis, Salem's got 20 HR at home this year. Last year they hit 18 ALL SEASON.

Last year they hit 18 ALL SEASON. Thanks for looking that up for me Chris. From what I've seen historically, Salem is very slightly pro-hitting (due to the OF space you noted) but runs about a .7 in terms of normalized HR rate. So all of those bombs are impressive. Looking back, Benintendi, Devers, Moncada, and Mookie all hit far fewer. And Kemp is a good case-in-point. Ockimey, too, for that matter. I agree with you about letting him stay a bit longer where he's having success, but his performance thus far is essentially unprecedented. I'd like to see him move up in early June (hoping Drvers gets back on track to get the move to AAA).
