Salem overturns 4-0 deficit to lead 7-5 after 7 innings. Ockimey (1-4) just hit a 2R HR to take that 7-5 lead. Chavis and Kemp both 2-4.

11th multi-hit game for Chavis in May.

Another rough one for Raudes. 5.2-8-4-4-0-4. Did retire the last 6 hitters he faced, which is good.

11th multi-hit game for Chavis in May. As I was informed by Ben Gellman on Twitter (he's Salem's PBP and media guy), Chavis is 1 HR away from tying the single-season record for HR hit at Lewis-Gale. Salem as a club already has more HR at home than the 2015 or 2016 teams hit.

He's given up 14 doubles, which seems like a ton (Trey Ball has the next most in the org w/ 12 allowed). That includes nine in homer games, and with the high walls at Haley Toyota/Lewis-Gale you wonder how many of those might have been homers, too. Strikeout numbers are solid and the control has remained good, though.

I was surprised to see Chavis has one of the lowest Pull% (39.6%, 59th/74 qualified) in the Carolina League, but when he pulls the ball in the air it's destroyed. 19-22 9 HR, 8 2B, 2 1B.
His Swinging Strike rate is 58th/74, 15.8%.

After he was drafted, when I first watched video of Chavis, the loft in the swing was very obvious. Just a lot of backspin. That's playing out at this point. The XBH numbers are eye-popping. Hope he can keep it up now that he's healthy. At some point the question is where he plays, but if the bat is this potent as he moves up I'm sure that will resolve itself.

If he starts moving quickly and looks likely to be a force in the majors, I could see him playing LF. They could move JBJ for a haul to improve other areas of the team.

Yep, but Raudes doesn't quite fit neatly into that profile, because he's also an International Free Agent who is pitching in the Carolina League as a 19-year-old and is striking out more than 20% of hitters.

Raudes' stuff is fringy and so hittable. Unless he improves his stuff a lot his future is not bright. His command and pitchability are already good. Not much room to improve.

It seems like Sox need an answer at 3b and 1b. Devers is likely for former, and the hope is maybe Travis at the latter, but if Chavis keeps it up, maybe he passes Travis there (unless that is a waste of his arm). For now, I am just psyched that the Sox have another guy who might be a legit offensive prospect.

I don't want a stumpy 5'10" guy at 1B. If Chavis can make the plays at 3B, move Devers eventually. I say eventually because Devers and Travis will be up significantly before Chavis to get their initial shots.
