milb now listing worldwide music sensation Shane Bieber as the starter for Lynchburg rather than McKenzie.
And Kent is on the TIA and was only put there Wednesday, so he's not the starter I don't think - I think you need to stay on TIA for 3 days, although I could be wrong. I'm an idiot - it says Kent and McKenzie on the writeup. Guess they can activate him.

It's been great to see De La Guerra take advantage of the Jeremy Rivera suspension and have a nice start to the year. No idea if anything is there, but he's been a steady bat at the top of the Salem lineup.

I knew a kid growing up who's name was Brian Mata. Didn't look anything like him. Could play softball though. Long lost third-cousin on father's side maybe. Looking forward to following him since we've been robbed of Jay Groome thus far.

For me, anything better than struggling would be outstanding for Mata at his age. Excellence would make him a top 5 prospect in the system.
Talking long-term, not just today.

Considering that he was good, but hardly dominant, in the DSL last year.....its best to keep our expectations in check. Thats easier said than done though, and I'm excited nonetheless.

Just looked at the PawSox game notes. Durham's probables for the rest of the series are Faria, Honeywell, De Leon. Yeeeeeeeeeesh. Methinks this won't be the series in which the bats come alive.

From the "meaningless info" file: Just noticed this doing research for my rankings for 6/1. Trey Ball's number of pitches and strikes thrown is startlingly consistent this year from start to start.
NP - Str 84-52 (62%) 85-56 (66%) 86-52 (60%) 93-56 (60%) 92-54 (59%) 90-53 (59%) 90-50 (56%)
Meaningless, but weirdly compelling.

Just out of curiosity ......
Trenton Kemp is nowhere on the top 60 prospect list. (For all I know, for good reason before this year.)
This site has him projected to repeat Salem in 2018.
How much longer might it be before he emerges from the shadows on this site? How much more does he have to do?? (And I'm not asking to be snarky - just wondering how much noticeable performance it takes before an unheralded player begins to move the needle.)

So he has come out of nowhere. In a few days (Wed or Thurs) you'll see that he is rated, where, I don't know. I'd have him in the top 40, but he might be in the 40-50 range. We'll have to see. I think he's definitely opening eyes this year. But he's a guy with no track and someone we'll need to see a longer track from before we can get too excited. But his year so far is certainly encouraging.

Not too bad an outing for Mata tonight....
69 pitches in just 3 innings, but only one earned run with 4 strikeouts....

0-10 with 4 Ks for Swihart and Pablo. Woof. The good news is that they were facing Blake Snell, a major league pitcher.
EDIT: The bad news is that they were facing Blake Snell, a major league pitcher.

Do you realize that he didn't even get activated until May 1? He started the year in XST because he was hurt. Not being snarky here either, but your questions make it seem like you don't realize we haven't re-ranked since he made his season debut. He'll be in the 40-50 range on 6/1, most likely.
