It will be interesting to see if they go with a signability guy at 11, after it didn't work with Quintana last year. My guess is a solid college performer at 11.

Well, as many have noted, Quintana was most likely Groome insurance. If Groome didn't sign, they'd have used whatever money was left under the cap and could have given him up to $671,970. They might also have negotiated a bit more with others like Dalbec, Shawaryn, and Marrero if necessary to squeeze out a bit more and maybe push it to $750-800k. My point: I wouldn't say picking him "didn't work," as there was no way he was ever going to take the $214k they were able to give him once everyone signed. Wouldn't surprise me to see a signability guy in the first 2 or 3 picks as insurance in case a Scherff or someone doesn't sign. Also, Scherff makes me think of Snarf from Thundercats and Smarf from Too Many Cooks.

Expecting no one of any significance today...maybe a mildly interesting HS body or two in that 400-500 range. Would love Baron Radclif or Je'Von Ward, both big upside guys in the 180-200 range on MLB rankings but guessing they'll require significantly more than the $150-$200k I'd presume we could, best case, scrape together. Then you have Ruth Hunter...rehabbing from TJ...he's got Ruth in the name and he's from Buchholz High School...maybe we can pull a Pennington there, kid has some serious talent.

Not necessarily saying it didn't work, but perhaps they go with a different strategy and take a guy they both like and will sign instead of an insurance-type guy. Just something to watch.

I'm interested in two college C's with good power potential: Chris Williams from Clemson, and JJ Schwarz from Florida. Both need to refine their defense, but I like the bats enough, and I don't think they are "signability" guys. 200K could entice either.
I like LHP David Parkinson's change up from Ole Miss- almost guarantee he'll go in round 11, as a pitchability starter teams covet in this area.
Keeping with the power RP type profile, Bryce Montes de Oca from Mizzou is likely to be one of the first names off today. He was a crowd favorite coming out of HS, if I recall.
Also, I'm really surprised no one took BC"s Donovan Casey, 2 plus tools, speed and arm, and some pop. I think BC has a chance to be a sneaky good ACC team if he comes back next year though, so I wonder if that is a factor.

You clearly don't follow me on Twitter/anywhere if you don't know half of the stuff that I write or say is irrelevant Internet nonsense.

Hanna seems to have some upside. Not sure if he's a guy who wants to sign for whatever, or perhaps Scherff insurance?
Question: Did the amount of $ available for each slot (within cap) post Round 11 increase to $125k this year? Not that that would be a real game changer but I thought I remember reading that.

With slot at round 10 for the Sox being $125,100, I wouldn't think so. But I am not sure

I hadn't known that, but it appears that this is true based on a quick Google search. Good call.
