The newest Scouting Scratch has reports on Chad De La Guerra and Bobby Poyner. These have been two of the most asked about prospects in the system this season given their big numbers. Both were 2015 draft picks after the 10th round with little pedigree, and have enjoyed considerable rises in the rankings (De La Guerra at #32 this month, Poyner at #43). What do people think after checking out the scouting report? Are you high on either guy? Personally, I wonder if a decent De La Guerra comparison might be former Sox minor leaguer, Carlos Asuaje. For Poyner, its hard not to think of Robby Scott in the sense that he is a LHP w/out premium velocity and relies on some deception to fool hitters. Statistically, its hard not to be impressed by Poyner's consistency across levels. In jumping from Salem to Portland this year, he has managed to somehow improve already impressive rate statistics: K-rate from 34.8% to 36.6% and BB-rate from 6.5% to 5.4%.

AA is usually where the rubber hits the road. So it's certainly encouraging to see both these guys keep up the solid numbers while moving to AA. Looking forward to seeing how they react to opposing EL players adjusting to them once they go through the league a second time. Will the scouting reports start to make them less effective, and if so, how will they be able to adapt?
Neither are likely to be stars, but if they can get solid contributions from either of these guys, or if they turn into assets others teams want in a trade, then it's a big win for the Sox.

The latest Scouting Scratch features three relief arms in the lower minors, all of which have FB that touched at least 96mph in this look: Joan Martinez, Juan Florentino, & Jared Oliver

Great stuff. Duron is a guy I've had some interest in given past reports from Alex Speier and Peter Gammons that his arm had garnered some interest within the org. Reyes has had a really nice run as of late so it was nice to get a report on him. He seems to be yet another Latin American arm in our system with some pitchability and getting results despite lacking average fastball velocity (e.g. Dedgar, Daniel Gonzalez).
