Chavis is not striking out that much so far in AA, 16.7% Ks. That's just as encouraging as any dip in his slash line has been discouraging, imo.

His contact has been poor though. It's just a .237 BABIP, but on a 10.8 LD%, that's based more on quality of contact than luck. Not worried or anything, but he'll probably need some time to adjust to Double-A, which I expected, personally.
Ian saw him last week - we'll have a Scouting Scratch on him this week hopefully.

Perhaps it is a mix up in the box score, but it is interesting to see Esplin playing CF with Brannen in RF.

CJ Chatham with a HR then is lifted from the game. Perhaps heading back to Greenville?

Chatham has been lifted early from every game of his rehab assignment. Nothing to see here, folks.

He only played one inning in the field. I'd feel the same way if it hadn't happened after a home run. If he had been pulled after a ground out or coming in from the field, then I would be concerned. But he hit the ball well in the GCL. As long as his hamstring wasn't bothering him anymore, I don't see a reason to keep him there.

As long as his hamstring wasn't bothering him anymore, I don't see a reason to keep him there. I actually had missed that it was the second inning. It's a good point. I also don't think the home run had anything to do with his coming out. The reasoning is either that something happened or if the plan was to get him two at-bats and pull him, as the second-inning HR was his second trip to the plate already. But I find it strange they'd pull him after two at-bats. Three typically seems to have been the magic number after a cursory look at his and Chatham's lines (albeit very cursory). It's strange, for sure.

Just 1 ER (5R) so far, but not exactly the Mr. Anderson we've been expecting. It's hard when your defense lets you down. He has started to turn a corned the past 2-3 outings, however.

Houck making his Red Sox debut tonight.
They should let us know a day in advance anyway.

Houck with 1 inning. Got 2ks but also gave up 2 earned runs. Would love an opinion on how he looked for those there live.
I think Chavis, with now 23 home runs this season between A and AA, has clearly established himself as a potential home run threat in the majors. I'm starting to think 30 home runs per season type player.
With all the Punch and Judy hitters on the big league team, I look forward to a future Red Sox with that type of power.
